View Full Version : So you can't run an emulator server offline anymore!?!

It seems that with 0.2.0 you HAVE to use the login server since
eqgame.exe -patchme doesn't work anymore.
I'm currently in the process of downloading the latest EQ patch so
haven't tried it out yet (installed 0.2.0 and reinstalled the DB though) so
I haven't confirmed this myself, but surely this means you can't run the emulator
offline on a single computer anymore? And creating your own online servers is difficult at best?
I don't mean to be negative here but are the developers intending to release any sort of fix for this?
When I'm testing my database additions I don't want to have to connect to the Internet and create a new
online server every time I restart the emulator, quite apart from actually playing the game when it's finally
playable.
Sorry if I'm sounding negative or annoyed here but it was quite a shock to read the posts on the Win32 support forum!

read me sez:

2nd way to start a server and connect:---------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Delete eqmain.dll and loginserver.ini. This will start your server without adding it to the Gotfrags server select screen. To connect run eqw.exe and enter your Login/password (not gotfrags l/p, an l/p u have to create yourself) and localhost as the IP (leave account key blank).

If you want to create an account, at the command line run:

World.exe adduser username password status

Status Listing: 0= Normal, 10= PU, 100= GM, 150= LGM, 200= Serverop

(*Note: This method is not recommended and may not work)

----------------------------------------------

any of the devs have a comment on offline servers or releasing a login server for those who don't want to advert to the world? personally I just want a small group of friends to play on my server for the time being.

I think you can still ru eqgame -patchme because it still works for me.

You can use -patchme but it doesn't bring up the dialogue to enter the IP to connect to anymore.
The method you mentioned, Zeitgeist, is also for pre-0.2.0 versions.
Oh well, I'll check back tomorrow and see if anyone else has any suggestions..

Did you patch up to current eqgame.exe? I did, and now I can only get access to my server via the loginserver (still can't get in though.. keep crashing to server select after I select char)

I more like "not right now" rather than "not anymore". Just go ahead and set up for the login server frags. it worth it just to play with 0.2.0.

Hopefully there will be a localhost verion of loginserver and eqemu someday.

You can thank Verant for disabling the old style login with the current live clients. For now you *MUST* be connected to the net and utilize our loginserver to run an EMU. A localized version of the LS could possibly be released in the future.

OK, I'll just wait until the login server is released.

I haven't tried the new version but I always deleted eqmain.dll and loginserver.ini ... if this doesn't work anymore =/ .. but I thought I read something about eqhost.ini being the only file we will have to edit in the future.. perhaps they will release a login server and then you can just set eqhost as needed.. I dunno rambling
