Do wiz pets work?

I made a wizard, and summoned a pet, and he wont follow any orders but to 'go away' and then, it adds an effect to my effect list that will never go away, and every time i zone, the pet reappears.

I don't understad, this is exactly how they work on EQLive. Were you expecting to be able to make them attack or something? The main point behind the wizard Familiars is the stat bonus and effect bonuses they cause, they do not attack or do dmg of any kind.
