It's a slang term to mean copyrighted software.
Say for instance if I were to post the full game of.. oh, Unreal Tournament for download. Or make the full version of Windows XP available for download.
Of course, I wont do this, but in each case those would be considered warezed products.
In this case, I think they're referring to the files EQGame.exe, along with the EQ DirectX 8 DLL and some other files. Since these are copyrighted, the only LEGAL way to obtain them is to buy EverQuest.
So, if somebody posts any of those needed files here, even if it's intended to help those folks who most likely already have the game, it's still posting copyrighted material and the folks who run this message board (and over all site, I'd well imagine) could get into some nasty legal trouble over it.
In short, they're protecting their backsides.
YOU don't have anything to worry about as long as you don't post any files that you know must be purchased. Or that are copyrighted.

Very basically, it means, don't ask for files that would "unpatch" EverQuest for you so you can run the Emulator.
Prolly happening a bit more now since you can't run your own server, an EQLive patch nerfed it and now you need to rely on DevTeam servers or have not patched. :)
Hope that helps, no getting banned now bro. :)

I can understand why the developers don't want to allow any copyrighted EQ files being made available, but it must be really frustrating for people who also play EQLive, having EQEmu "broken" every time a patch comes out. Since I don't currently play EQLive I don't have a problem (though I've backed everything up just in case) but I understand how others must feel.

I agree, it is frustrating, but it is the responsiblilty of the EQEMU user to keep a 'working' EQ version, not the development team. The dev team can only react once patches are made.
You know what they say about an ounce of prevention....

Okay, everyone, begin chanting....Backup, backup, backup. :)
We should put this somewhere prominent on the main page IMHO.
My advice is to maintain two "nomimal" eq folders on your hard drive: one for normal EQLive, and one for gotfrags. ALWAYS use eqlive first to see if there is a patch, and ALWAYS backup your gotfrags eq folder before patching that folder:
c:\eq_gf
c:\eq_gf (pre-patch)
Or somesuch. You get the idea. (Or if you're like me and have quit eqlive, you can skip the normal eqlive folder, but you still have to back up your gotfrags folder before patching).
Please be patient. The fact that 0.2.4 isn't out yet hints to me (in two-foot-high letters) that this will be a BIG RELEASE. Just my opinion, I have no inside info. But I think we will all be delighted at what they've put into it once it comes out.

if you got a network and a spare computer or whatnot, have a hard drive with eq folders and have them patched with different dates, then point to the directory you need. IE: eq21302, eq21702, you get the idea, it's very usefull. :D

About the backup if I dont have the free space on my comp to have a second directory with EQ in it, what can I do?? I cant play so I learned that backup is indeed important but eq is like 950mb!! I have merely 300mb left on my hard drive!! hehe
and I dont have a second comp either or a cd writter to make copies on a disc or something.
PS: If this is considered as warezing ( is that even a word??) this was not intentional I don't beleive asking what I need to abckup is considered doing warez so don't ban me if it is just dont answer pls:D

Well this whole topic might not even matter if 2.4 gets released then it will work with the current client. However what I might do if it gets Yoda's blessing is every patch I will put the list of files it modifies on the forums. That way you can backup just those files instead of your entire EQ directory.

Nothing seems wrong about listing the modified files- you're not actually doing anything wrong, as anyone who owns Everquest is capable of getting that knowledge.
Theclaus that would be very usefull, im sure everyone would agree.
