I did not put this in off-topic because in a way its not, but in a way it is, if you wanna move it to offtopic, go for it, i didn't know where it should go.

I have been with emu for over a year, and loved it. I quit EQLive about 3 weeks ago and started playing Diablo2 with my cousin and getting MAJOR hooked on it. I started looking into modding it, and designed it so you can get to level 200, and was looking into actually designing a EQ mod for Diablo which will have you only go to level 65 and levels will be tougher. I am having fun doing that, takes a long time to figure out experience points, calculating it so level 50 ain't just as hard as level 45 or so, or to much harder than 49, its a challenge and thats what I love. But its kinda drawing me away from EQEmu. Why did I put playstation2 up there you ask? Well, i got some money today for my b-day and wanted to get a PS2 mainly got Grand Theft Auto and WWE Smackdown4 (i think its 4, maybe 3, hehe). I rented a PS2 and loved them. But with a 40+ hour a week job coming my way, it will be near impossible to do all 3 at one time. I just don't know what to do right now and I was open for suggestions what you would do if in my position, please don't say EQEmu just because this is what the site is. I would post on battle.net forums for D2, but man, that place is crazy, way to many whiners, LOL. I just need some feedback what you would do. I love all 3, just can't do em all

If I can actually get minilogin and zones.exe to work, then I might stay, but right now, zones keep making illegal operations, every post I read about it don't help. EQEmu patcher don't work for me, says it won't connect, so if i accidently patch, I am screwed. Before the illegal operations, zone.exe would crash every time i hit "Enter World". I just think its telling me something, that I should just get up, and do something else. No one replyed to my other post asking for help on it, so I just left it and its probably on page 3 now. Out of the 3 at the top, which would u go for?

Sorry if its all jumbled up, just put the pieces together, you should be able to tell what I am trying to say. Just to sum it up, which of the 3 in the subject would u pick? Not making a poll because I want to hear your opinions on each one.

Hmm...

The problem that you're having with starting up sounds like an issue with the data in the database and the sharemem dll. Next time we release, we need to release a zone and world compiled without sharememe as well as with. Sorry you've had those problems.

If I were you, I say go for the PS/2. I recently got one, and I love the thing. Find a few games to completely own on it. (Vice city is fun, but it's a bit too actiony for my tastes, I like RPG's all the way)

Diablo is fun, but it will wear thin quickly. And the eqemu is alot of fun, but it requires alot of persistance. PS/2 you can just drop and go anytime, and its easy to come back to it when you can.

Those are just my thoughts, definitely not trying to steer you away from here...

Okay, here's my outlook on your situation.

Depending on the situation at your house, if you live with other people...if these other people also use the computer, ect. I would say go for the playstation 2. It has tons of games, i'm sure you'll love a good amount of them. Playstation 2 won't eat up ALL your time. I have a ps2, play Diablo 2, and play eqemu. It all depends on I feel like at that particular. If you get bored of one, go to the other. Go ahead and buy that playstation 2, get some good games for it. You don't have to play it exclusively. Hop on the computer when you feel like Diablo 2 or everquest, and when you get tired or your butt starts to go numb from the computer chair, go sit in your big laz-e-boy and kick back with a glass of soda and play some playstation 2. Your talking to the slacker-king here....I do it every day...don't worry, you WILL NOT be dissappointed with a ps2.

Thx for all the suggestions. I have not had a job since May 2002, and it was all part time, NEVER had a full time job, plus over time. I just turned 19 and I think its time to get a job, a full time job. Just didn't know how to handle my time with eqemu, d2 modding and PS2. And yes, vice city kicked MAJOR ass! I bought a memory card just so i could save the game when i rented the PS2, I couldn't shut it off :P That game and WWE Smackdown is at the top of my list.

I still live with my parents, so I have competition for the computer :P But all they ever do is check email, thats it, so I loose the computer about 4 hours a week. I have a PS1 and N64 right now, they are just collecting dust for the past year. And when EQ2 comes out, thats a major definate on my part, I will probably be out of D2 by then though.

The zone.exe wasn't giving me illegal operations before, it just crashed, I dunno why all of a sudden it decided to just give me Illegal Operations. Had this problem since 4.0, so you can see why I have been upset/impatient, hehe.

I would go for the PS2. I have one and love it. Been playing a game called .hack (http://www.dothack.com). This game is fun and is unique because you are playing a online game offline. Hard to explain you would have to rent it to understand. The other game I have been hooked on is Dark Cloud 1. For only $19.95 the game rocks and made the Greatest Hit list. Dark Cloud 1 reminds me of the old school zelda with a twist. The world you live in is destroyed by a Dark Genie. Before it was destroyed though everything in the world was encapsulated so it would protect the building and people from destruction. However the Dark Genie was so powerful that it spread the buildings and people into parts of the world. You are the only one that can save mankind.

As you can see I am a RPG/Adventure kind of guy. Though when you look at what you can do with yourself I would look at what is the most enjoyable to you and stick with that. What is going to give you the most enjoyment.

Fulltime job + school sucks nuts. If you end up doing that, go for girlfriend, and drop EQemu and PS2 and D2. Getting laid is a better stress reliever than all three combined. Just get one that's low maintenance and enjoys independence.

If you only end up working, EQemu and D2 modding are nice ways to burn off that leftover focus you have at the end of the day (I always had leftover stress and focus, and used to burn it off with EQ). And PS2 is a nice way to zone out and forget everything.

As for your extra b-day money, it'll seem like chumpchange when you get a job. Enjoy your freedom while you still have it, and buy whatever makes you happy, or spend it on a gf.

Spending it on a GF? Is that something like buying a prostitute?

No, its the other way around....

Then when you're married its a whole new world of 'NO'..

Wives remind me of jaguars... Really expensive to maintain, and impossible to keep the damn things working right..

Eww Trump, please say PS2 and not PS/2. Too many bad frigging memories of the PS/2 computer. Damn 386 couldn't handle Win3.11 and wouldn't let me install Linux.

Wives still > Prostitutes. Wives can't have their pimps jump you when you suggest something unorthadox.

Oops, did I say that out loud?

I did buy the PS2 about 2 days ago (thats where I have been, lol). I bought 4 games, The Getaway, Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth, Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 and GTA Vice City. I am currently only playing the PS2, I will still browse the forums, and once a version of EQEmu comes out that works for me without all the trouble, I will start back up creating quests, been really thinking of creating a Diablo 2 database for EQ, might be hard but it is possible.

Fulltime job + school sucks nuts
School is just college, only going part-time there. Only have 1 class and going mon, wed and fri only. The other class I do whenever I want, mainly just fridays I get the assignment done and turned in over the internet.

Been playing a game called .hack
Will check it out, thanks for the link :D I like pretty much any type of game except sports (basketball, baseball, etc..)

Was also looking at EQOA, just not sure how much the equipment costs to get set up on the internet. Hoping you don't need a dial-up internet provider, I only do cable. Might just wait till EQ2 though because if I buy EQOA, it will be dead for me by time EQ2 comes out.

Yes, GF's are pretty expensive, lol. I have been free for a while now, I do mean FREE!

Ive played EQOA since beta and it is FUN. Totally different than any EQ out (like...eqpc?) races are the same except only 2 elven races (dark and regular elf) no half elves or Ogres or Kerran (vah shir) or frogloks (as playable races)

Takes place 500 years before eqpc

Its more how should i say...action based in the fighting (you mash buttons for hitting and spell casting) but it is fun (the quests are cool)

Sorry if its a stupid question, but isnt there a PS2 EQ as well? It be really fun using the sucker to play EQ locally :)

Ive got the linux kit for mine, and have been using it to serve games to my house. Ive discovered you can stick a copy of Dungeon Siege and Diablo II 9and others) on every machine in the house can run it from there. Saves installing 2 gigs on every damn box just to play em multipleyer (oh yes, you have to have some files locally to play DII like that)

Yep, thats what EQOA is, EverQuest Online Adventures, its for the PS2 only. Haven't looked into it much though, still gotta do that.

Getting hooked on another game now...THE SIMS! hehe, very awsome game for PS2, I think its a little easier to play on PS2 than on PC.
