Is this possible? I know that their FAQ says to update to the most recent version. Is there a way to do this with out logging in to the EQ servers via EQ (i.e. an executable download that will patch)? Thank you!

Do not quote me as the gospel truth on this one, but I will take a guess at this one for you.

Unlike most traditional games which rely on a static environment, Everquest relies on a constantly evolving environment. This creates the effect of needing to be able to patch at a moments notice. Many times without any warning.

If you make downloadable patches for such, you would have nothing but a technical support nightmare.

More importantly, EverQuest was designed specifcly for playing online. You are not supposed to be playing on anything but Sony/Verants servers. Repeat, You Are Not Supposed To Be Playing EQEmu. It is not the way Sony/VI designed it.

Since they only wanted you playing their game on their servers, they make it where to patch you have to be logged into their Patchserver in order to patch.

But there is hope. You do not have to have an account with them in order to patch. Since in order to log in to the world server you must first be running the same version as everyone else, they make the Patchserver accessable to everyone. Theoreticly it makes it easier on their tech support. (unlike my spelling)

So, if you want to patch to the most recent version, all you have to do is install your Everquest Core, RoK, SoV, SoL, PoP, or whatever ones you have of them, and run the game. It will connect to the Sony/VI Patch server automaticly, patch you to the most recent version, and then just do not agree to the EULA and it will spit you out. After that you only have to follow the FAQ/README's and such for explicit directions on how to log in, or build a server.

Some advice though:
-RTFM - yes... RTFM... and after that RTFM again. You would be surprised how helpful it is to read it three times before you do anything. After that work it step by step.
- Learn to use the Search System. People are more inclined to help if it has not been answered 30 times in the last week.
- Remember this is not Sony/Verant; things are not 100% like they are there. It is still a WiP (Work in Progress). Many things are being worked on still, and sometimes patience is the only solution.

Other than that, its all common sense.
