I am taking a poll now as to how many would like to see this happen (http://forums.eqemu.net/viewtopic.php?t=7037 ). I currently have 149 items complete, pretty much all the basic items with no stats except ac or dmg/dly. I could also use some help, if you respond in the Poll that you would like to help, PLEASE PM me, I can't see who responds to what. I need as many people I can get to help me on this. Would help if you was D2 experienced also   Need help with the following: Mobs, Quests, Mirror Zones, Changing of zones names, and a few others. Just PM or email me: hardyeq@kornfreak.com

Thanks!

I have a few saying they want to help, but no PMs or emails, thats the only way I will know if you wanna help :P

I have had this idea for a while now, just was to busy with RL. I am scared though once I move to Colorado my dad won't have a computer set up. I am hoping he will. If he don't, atleast have someone still working on the server so when I get a computer, I can come back and help.

Just an update:
I have over 310 items complete (can't remember the exact number), pretty much all the normal items, plus almost all the exceptional. After that I will be working on the Elite items, then the uniques, rares and crafted. There will only be 1 trade skill in this game, the Horadric Cube, which requires 0 skill in Blacksmithing so you can pretty much be 100% successful, will also start you out with 200 skill in Blacksmithing.

I did try and set up a public server to test some of the items, it didn't work for some reason, but MiniLogin did, I tested every item and so far they are turning out pretty good. Will make a public "beta" server as soon as I can get it up. No spawns, but you get summon commands to help test items, to many for me to summon them all to try. Spawns will come after items so I can set up loot at the same time.

Well, me and hardy tried setting up, but we had some problems so no go yet. Itll take a while, but we think we will get it up.. eventually.

Umm-isn't it risky to tempt a company that sued a movie called "Diablo" just because of the name?

The movie Diablo never came out, Blizzard has that movie on "reserve" for when they decide to make it, thats the reason they got sued. Now is Blizzard holding the rights to a eqemu server also? I don't think so  Its just like how someone made a Baldur's Gate mod for Diablo, the makers of Baldur's Gate are not going to sue them for doing that.

About the server, once we get the problems resolved, we will have a 24/7 beta testing server. Right now it would be just to test items, everyone will get the summon command, but no spawns yet. So you would have to be willing to help this server become a reality faster by helping test. As soon as beta is over, there WILL be a character whipe and all commands taken off for normal players. Once spawns do appear is when we hope it will turn a little funner. The news will be in the MOTD once the server is up, so if you wanna see whats going on, you will have to get on and read the MOTD. Might make a website if I get around to it.

Yea, Im agreeing with Trump here. Its not that we want a D2 emulator, we wan a D2 EQ emulator, or sometyhing like that.

You missed the point of the matter at hand.

And Trump, I like your sig :)

Well i can tell you from first hand dont mess with blizzard games at all dont know if anyone from here knows much about it but i started there creating "bots" which has nothing to do with there games just copys there login protocal BUT they still sued alot of people and caused alot of hassels that eqemu dont need right now and to make things worse vindi the company that makes blizzard games was bought out by microsoft therefor you would be fighting blizzard + microsoft <can you say BAD IDEA>
Just a little refrence as to why not to start tring to copy d2 in any way

I will post on the D2 forums and see if I get a response, ok? If I do, I will gladly post the link here showing you thats its not against copywrite or anything. I dunno how it would be. Not using the same mob/armor/weapon etc.. graphics. Not using any files pertaining to D2.

I won't link to this post though, would get WAY to many hits on it. (I should know, I almost ran out of my 5gig/month bandwidth in 1 week from posting an image on their forums).

Here is the link: http://www.battle.net/Forums/thread.aspx?FN=d2-general&T=93564&P=1&ReplyCount=0#post93564 , I did NOT mention the emulator, and I won't respond to anyone who might have an idea or mention the emulator. Mainly because if you do, you can get banned from battle.net, because its probably considered hacking to them.

People make mods all the time, shit look at games like Half-Life, Quake 2, etc. Alot of the mods are movies and other games, ie Matrix.

plus its kinda the fact that blizzard cant really do anything about people making a mod for another game that emulates diablo or diablo 2 in anyway shape or form.... plus its completly different then D2 anyway seeing as how its 3D and on a completly different game engine :P ...

I myself would love to see a D2 conversion for EQ that would put some badly needed new flavor into the game heh :)

Actually... Blizzard could sue the piss out of Hardy... If he was charging money, heheh. So could Sony. As long as it's free, there's nothing either company could do.

Thats not entirely true..

If I have the money to hire a lawyer, I could sue you for looking funny...

Most likely it would be thrown out of court, but the way most companies operate is they outspend their opponets on legals. You're going to spend a heap of money defending yourself, even if you're wrong, and many people will just give up and submit rather than fight.

It happened from a news mailing group abotu pet supplies. Amazing story that shows how screwed up the legal system is in the US. Guy badmouths a store that gave him lousy service on a news mail group, several people agree, store owner files a lawsuit in his home town, next to his office, against people over the internet who are supeoniaed to travel across the country to argue about them criticizing his horrible service. Said people could not afford that battle, and were basiclly forced to pay him damages. Cost to them, on average, 3k a person (8 people I believe). Cost to him. 25$ to file the lawsuit. His son was a lawyer so he got free legal advice.

So, to make a long story short, whether you're charging or not, you can be sued.

Will you? Most likely not, but in the vast realms of possibilty it could happen.
