Appreciation and Basics

Greets peeps!

After a couple of days, reading tons of posts and reading reading reading and some more reading... I now have a working EQEmu LAN that we are now playing and having a blast!

I did want to say that I greatly appreciate everyone that put all of this together made it available, I take my hat off to your almighty superior computer greekness that is Godly compared to my humble geekness :P

Thanks to devlor and MOHAA for the excellent guides for us newbies.

Being the n00b that I am (at least for now), I am not sure on a few things...

1. Hail does not seem to work on NPCs
2. Can't get quests because of number 1
3. Some lag issues (goes away after a minute or so)
4. NPCs and mobs don

to get the target thing to work, all u need to do is zone. if u havent noticed, as soon as u cant target stuff. u also cant open your inventory. zoning fixes most problems, and sometimes it gives u like 20,000 silver pieces when u come out the other end. :lol:

Thanks for the input.

After reading up on the worldbuilder forum I noticed some DB files that I can add which will help greatly. I will do this after I get home from work and see if it clears up the "hail" issue.

Never even thought about zoning :oops:

It's amazing at how much information is on all these forums, I'm sure that after enough digging and searching I will find the answers.

1. Hail does not seem to work on NPCs
Do you have any quest files? Hail will only give you a response if you have a quest file, named with the correct NPC ID of the mob you are hailing. If you do have the quest files, make sure they are in the correct directory for the zone (e.g. "C:\EQEmu\quests\oasis")

2. Can't get quests because of number 1
Make sure they are in the correct directory for the zone (e.g. "C:\EQEmu\quests\oasis")

3. Some lag issues (goes away after a minute or so)
This depends on your computer specs, how many zone servers you have running, how many people are connected, how fast you can send / receive data etc. Also, there may be some lag if someone zones, as your computer is booting up / connecting a new zoneserver.

Lag was fixed, IP mix up in some of my files but fixed now.

Looks like I need to hunt down some quests files because I have none at the moment. I would just add the quests myself but I am very sure that would involve scripting :(

I don't mind the "quarks" as long as it is the "norm" and not because I did something wrong or missed something :wink:

Wes also has a kickass questing system on the way - it's a quest editor, with syntax checks, and everything :) He showed a picture of it in irc chat, and I'm very, very excited to see it come out.

Quests will be a LOT easier to get set up.
