This totally totally SUCKS. I think my computer is finally going to the garbage. Might send my Diablo 2 server database to my serverop and have him host it. I will work on it once I move out at the end of May. I am afraid this computer ain't going to last to much longer after 5 years. Why? Well, here is my story:

I restarted my computer to update some files I installed for my CD Burner. Half way starting up computer it gave me an error that a file can't be updated so windows might not run correctly, this has been happening for 1 month. I finally decide to get rid of it, so I pop in the Win98 2ed CD, reinstall it, now I am getting 2 damn errors that it can't upgrade. Its starting to piss me off! NOW to top that off, when I installed Win98, it overwrote Directx 9.0 with 6.1, which is the only file it put back in version. So I just put in 8.0 which I had on my Myst 3 CD so it would be quicker. I restart my computer to finish updating the Directx, gives me same old errors, blah blah. I am back at version 6.1, wtf?? I tried to run Myst 3, gives me an error that it can't find a Directx file (version 8.0, remember, its back to 6.1). I try and go to start -> run -> dxdiag....no such program. Now its pissing me off. I wanted to relax a little and play Diablo2 online which i haven't done for about a month, THAT DON'T WORK EITHER! It says it can't find game.exe, its right there in the damn folder! It also can't find DSOUND.dll, which is also RIGHT THERE! I am just about to say screw it and throw the damn computer away. I reformated also, think it worked? NOPE. I have Norton System works, it don't find any errors at all. No viruses, no nothing. Oh yea, Admin Tool won't even start up, you can see that screenshot in my Diablo 2 Beta 1 thread. If you wanna see screenshots of the errors, I will gladly prove them to ya, because I would so much want to get this Diablo2 server up, I am not trying to put it off. I knew I should have bought a computer, but no, I had to go to the WWE Event and buy a PS2 with 4 games.   Hopefully my dad has a decent computer at the house. I just need to stop messing with this heep of junk.

Just a few tips for the future.

1.) Backup your important stuff to CD's. (if you don't already.)

2.) Get a copy of Norton Ghost or similar backup and recovery tool.

I store Ghost images for all my Computers, including different OS configurations on a networked machine, as well as some bootable CDs. I'm able to recover from catastropic falure easily, and in less than 30 minutes can have my operating system and backup files restored.

3.) upgrade that 98 machine to XP!

I have some stuff on CDs, but not everything. I am going to go buy a re-writable CD so I can just keep updating that with important stuff. I did norton ghost, didn't know what it did, lol, I knew it took a picture or something of your computer, but then what? I will backup my entire machine once I get back. I will be using XP once I move out, goodbye 98! hehe.

It did scare me though, when I restarted my machine to get the screenshot of the errors at the beginning, my computer wouldn't start back up! I tried 4 differant times, it got to my desktop, but no icons, nothing on ctrl alt dlt window. Scared me shittless, lol. Thats what I reinstalled windows again without reformat, and it works now, no more errors :D
