My world is messed up. Whenever someone or me loggs onto it, it disconnects them. After is says sending lists of guilds or whatever it says client disconnected. My buddy thinks it cause im hosting my world on a windows XP and I should host it on a linux. He says it will be more stable. What are your thaughts on this?

Windows XP comes with a firewall, did you uninstall it?

Mine hosts just fine with zonealarm setup, and my router running it's own firewall software :P. So linux isn't the only option. But if you expect someone to be able to answer your question based on something as vague as you are giving you're dreaming.
Try stating how your network is setup, or perhaps what your login is set to, the router/cable modem you you are using. Your internal ip's. Can you connect at all? Or just your friends can't connect?
etc.

Yeah well, my friend says that he thinks my problem is that im useing XP home edition. He has pro and is much more stable... Im beginning to think that hes right. Here is my loginserver.ini text file......

And my boot5zones.bat has this......
if NOT exist spells_en.txt goto NOSPELL
start zone . 7995

start zone . 7997
start zone . 7998

echo You did not copy the spells_en.txt from your everquest directory to this one. Please do so or zones will crash on startup.

My ip is on either side of the 4 didgit numbers such as 7995 7996 and so on. I think that Linux would be more stable then XP home edition. Someone please help me please!!!!!!!! need any more info? Just reply.

I do think there might be a problem with XP, as I'm hosting my server on a win2k machine. And I can run eq on the server machine with no problems. The first time I tried, I did it on my XP machine and was getting that crappy 1017 error, so I moved it over to the 2k machine, and it can run the game fine, but I can't get my XP machine connected, which is odd because I no firewall, on a hub, internal firewall is disabled. So I'm stumped. In my opinion try linux, but see if you can get your xp machine to connect to that. I myself am also running XP Home edition, makes me mad, but guess we will have to wait for someone to find a hidden internal thing or something.
