Playing around with the eqemu admin tool i came across the tab spawns and waypoints. I noticed (in drawdes db) many preconfigured spawnpoints with waypoints around the zones...so are the mobs supposed to walk/fly those paths or do i misunderstand?

You can use those paths but it's my understanding the "z" coords are off so it's going to give the "bouncing" effect in the movement. Best bet is to use the #grid add and the #wp add function in game to get the smoother movement from NPC's.
