View Full Version : Is this possible? If so, has it been done?

I'm just getting my own server started and I was wondering...
Is it possible to create different scenarios in EQ? For instance:
Say the only city you can spawn at is FP, and the gods have conquered the other cities. You have the other cities spawned with different creatures and whatnot, and in the very center of the town is the god. There's a different god for each city, and each of the different gods drops a weapon for each of the different classes. (Neriak may drop a item that's created that's awesome and is solely for necro's).
Would something like this be possible? Is it already done? Is it a good idea or am I nuts? I think it would be cool if we're able to change the game like this, and not just make a replica of eqlive.

Yes it is possible. I've been working out an alternate world for months now. In mine, all cities are dangerous to enter. And all races and classes start in the same zone and work from there.

Pretty much anything is possible as long as you have the time and know how to do it :D

Yay, someone actually figured out where I got my name from. I also took it from Billy Madison where the old lunch lady came up to the kids and said "Have some more shloppy joes, I know how you kids like your shloppy joes extra shloppy!"
Hehe, anyways, I take it from the first reply that it takes a long time to do something like this? How would you go about doing it? Could you do it in game by depoping the zone then placing NPC's where you want them?

That is a good start. Then there is adding movement, items, factions, loot tables, quests. Altering zone connections. Depends on how in depth you want to go. Huge amounts of database work, and I'm keeping a list of diff files on the modifications I've had to do on the source code. Mostly because some of the things my NPC's do in cities had to be hard coded.

Theres the keyword. TIME and KNOWLEDGE. I tried playing with one of those editors and just laughed and closed it out cause I had no idea what to do.

Unless god models are in the zone file ("zonename_chr.s3d" I think) or in the global model file which contains all PC models, horses, pets and so on, you will not be able to spawn gods with their correspondent model.
Remember that if a model isn't stored in a zone file or in the general model file you will see a human male model instead (example: spawning a NPC with Sontalak or Aten Ha Ra model in FP- didn't check this personally but I don't think these models are available outside of their respective zones).

I could be wrong but I think the Arena allows all models to be summoned. I know I was able to summon dragons in there at elast. Reason I think this is cause Verent likes to use that zone for alot of GM events, and they can summon some crazy stuff in there.
