Anyone have any input on which class is the best for the emu, and why?

As always:

Play the class you prefer.

No class is better than the other, it's the player who makes a character of a given class good or bad. Heed this old EQLive adage and start a race/class combination you like, but keep in mind that not all classes are equally good for solo/group/raid play.

For more info check out some of the class boards. eqcleric.gameglow.com has some great threads about strengths/weaknesses for classes - check out posts made around the dreaded time of "priest balancing", around Sept-Oct 2002. During that time the site had great threads about enhancing clerics without threading on other class' turf, thus the comparisions made.

Well, for the legit server, go with what you like, for the cheating server, especially if you host it yourself, it seems that the warrior is the most powerful, because you can get any spell in the game with him...

If your on a cheater server probably a troll or ogre warrior is your best bet. However if your cheating enough its not gonna matter when you duel weild a weapon that is 200/10 and have armor with 100's of AC and about several k hp.

well, I'm about to go through spells.cpp and see if I can't get pet dmg up, 70 dmg per hit from a lvl 65 pet is pathetic.. hp seems to be low as well

you might want to hold off a bit, I just submitted a fix for all the mage pets that line them up to EQ live except for the procs/spells they can cast. I didn't touch the #makepet stuff tho... just the legit spell-summoned pets.

Oh and if you are talking about legit pets, 70's from a caster level 65 pet isn't uncommon or horribly low, pet's actual level is 58 to 60, but damage caps out at about 83 hp per shot for Rathe's son --hardest hitting mage pet in the game, maybe hardest hitting of them all.
