I would like for the person with the screen name "pparker" to be banned please. All Monday night on the MoonPhoenix server, he was summoning and killing ppl via #damage....he was doing this from across zone lines on many different characters and many ppl on the server threatened to leave because of his immature, pathetically childish behavior.

How about you talk to the owner of MoonPhoenix and tell him/her to deal with it, we dont have control over the servers.

Tend to agree with image, I had "parker" "aparker" on my server exploiting until I patched it up. (heh darla/deth...) I'd suggest you tell the owner of MoonPhoenix to remove the #damage command for use by regulars without status or if it autostatus's people just bump the command up to 210 or something :)

i play on moonphoenix and people summon and kill you or just #kill you all the time. it does tend to get annoyinh but i agree the owner of the servere should deal with it

Tell us the exact account name Zern, and we'll ban his account/email mail/ip range from EQEMU completely...

Actually, it really doesnt happen THAT often, and only for a couple of minutes if it everr does. This person was doing this for about 2 or so hours.

Trumpcard: [Aparker] and [Parker] were the account names. I reciently (last night) added an IP logger to my server so if this person joins again with that account name I'll be able to give you the IP.

From looking at this guy, he's had several accounts, several email addresses he set up, so I banned all the email realms he has, and the user id's. I'm going to go and search for all users set up using these email services in that time frame, and ban their accounts also. If they want accounts, they can use their REAL email addresses, like we requested. I may just back ban all eqemu users using any of these, or other free email services.

He's used..

alanparker, aparker, pparker,ppparker

We REQUIRE you to use a REAL email address. If you do not have one, contact your ISP for one, they give everyone an email address when you set up service for them. The reason we try to enforce this is for just these type scenerios, users coming in from random emails, who can set up a free account, and just make a new one when they get banned.

gaggle.net
charter.net
rock.com

If anyone knows any other free email services that should be banned, let us know...

Im starting to think we need to do an forum account wipe, with a precompiled list of all banned free email services. We have a ton of accounts set up, and I'm betting alot of them have never been used. Or do a delete on all user records where # of posts=0. (I'm thinking in terms of a sql delete statement.)

Ok Trumpcard I understand your end of things. But my email address is charter.net. Because they happen to be my isp. 42.95 a month. Not that its a huge deal, I can just register with an email address off my domain. But charter.net is my REAL email address.

And it probably is a few others real email addresses. Just my .02.

I'm guilty of using a free email service to get an account. I used it as a second account for testing different privilege levels on my server.

I got ya.

Never heard of them, but didnt realize they were a service provider. I might have misclassified them as a free email provider...

Merth, I understand completely and the reasoning for having one, and I'm not pointing figures, so don't take my comments the wrong way. The problem for us is trying to maintain a single way of prohibiting folks that cause problems, I wish we could come up with a simple solution that would solve both concerns at one time.

Trumpcard, please don't ban charter.net. They are an cable provider, not free email provider. thanks =)

We could start requiring a $1 a month on a credit card. I think then, people would settle down. But then we run into legal problems and crap we dont run into. Another solution is just to drop the login service and let everyone run minilogins.

Personally I can't think of many ways that are feasible that would fix the issue of what to do with people that exploit. Fees would cut down on users and we want this to be bigger NOT smaller. Running your own minilogin would also create some problems such as how would we all link together? I want all servers in a list!

I think we're just going to have to deal with it and come up with a way that will report exploits and fix them one by one, they can even beta test for us! We can't let this turn into a he said she said thing either, it could lead to people getting banned that shouldn't be.

Hard topic for sure.

Well, we are adding a logging system into the database. I believe it is on CVS already. It logs who did what, when. This way people can actually see what's going on.

We are still trying to figure some things out on how to control this. With it being free, you get every little freak in the multiverse (heh) causing trouble.

Trumpcard, there is a domain re-direction service: www.dot.tk it also does email forwarding.

Anyone with .tk at the end of their email is probably covering their hotmail yahoo etc...
