I just read a three page post about the EQ patcher that made me want to say something on here about it. I've had EQ for over two years now. When new updates, like Luclin or PoP, came out my EQ patch program downloaded all the files for those updates. I couldn't really use the cool new features or zones on those updates though unless I entered the EQ registration code for that update.
I just had to post this because that rant post I just read seemed to be saying that you couldn't download patch updates that you didn't buy the disks for. That's just not true. It downloads all of it automatically (sometimes a couple hours worth of downloads that you can't use - yuck). You just can't use it in EQLive unless you enter the code that says you purchased that update.
What I wonder is does EQEmu circumvent this? What I mean is this: Can I use PoP or Luclin in EQEmu if I never bought the CDs for them? If I try to travel to the Plane of Hate will I get an error? How on earth would the EQEmu server know if I enabled any zones at EQLive or not?
Just wondering about that...
