Im taking the patch server down until we redo the system. I am tired of it being leached by everyone (Hackersquest & our users) that have not helped pay for the bandwidth for it.

The new system will have a username/password and a log of everything you download, so if we ever get sued by Sony, I have all these nice logs of people that they can ban accounts on.

If you do have problems with this, why dont you do what we have always said, and KEEP ANOTHER EQ FOLDER.

so what now? can i host a server for this to work? or is there another server that offers hosing? im willing to pay, but i thought that was the whole idea of eqemu, so we didnt have to pay to play? i have a couple comps i am willing to share, i just need help setting them up. im new to all this, but i know i have spent three days putting up a server and i cant get in to play :(

i have a server setup on the emu atm, how would i go about changing and what files would i change to make it playable from my own computer network? please, i am ambitious about creating my new world. any help would be appreciated. thank you.

i already have eq on both comps and a network is set up.

if you still want to get on EQEmu read my post in the EQEmu forum named "patcher fix"

it will tell you how to get on without the patcher. although it wont help you if you have repatcher EQLive, if thats the case you have to wait till the patcher comes back up

provided you have your eqemu Everquest Folder where this command is.

since the patcher is down there is another way of getting on.

steps:

1.go to your start menu
2.click run
3. type this:
"C:\Program Files\Everquest\eqgame.exe" patchme

include parenthesis's and the patchme at the end type it exactly as it is

this will only work if you patched the EQEmu Patcher and didnt unpatch it. dont repatch EQLive or you wont be able to get back on until the EQEmu patcher is back up

now for us who went to live eq when the server went down and now have a way not to use the patcher in the future... could we please have the patch server up for atleast a few hours to fix our systems?

I aplogize for my inexperience at this, but i had no idea you could connect to the server without using the patcher, i have two folders, one i use for emu and one for real eq. i assumed you had to run the patcher every time you connected. you may want to make a post available that is EASY to find, (like on your front page) i can tell by looking at all the posts about the patcher no being up that many people are like myself and probably run the patcher every time they would connect. sry, and also if there is anything i can do to help you all out feel free to drop me an email at cannon-emu@cfl.rr.com. good luck and best wishes.

The only way I could play EQEMU was thru the patcher, and now that its not working I cant play.

Ive tried playing EQEMU thru the Start menu, and selecting "Run"

But I get error 1017! ARGH

I have EQEMU installed here
C:/EQEMu

I have tried the following codes in "Run" and they dont work

"C:\EqEmu" eqgame.exe patchme

"C:\EqEmu\eqgame" patchme

"C:\EqEmu\eqgame"

"C:\EqEmu\eqgame.exe"

I love EQEMU, its almost just like the real thing, plus, I save 13 dollars a month!

Please help me. :cry:

First this site is not a money maker and they can do with it as they like.... it is their right.

I would love nothing more than to get back in, I have no problem with them logging my email address... think about it, to use this system you already have given your email and had it verified to get a log in name and password. I log could have already existed.

I would like to know what files do get patched. With that information I could pull out some old cd's and try to get back on without the patch server.

You're a moron. The people who develop and run EQEmu owe you nothing, stop acting like you're getting ripped off. You're getting exactly what you pay for.

If you had a reading comprehension level above that of a 6th grader, you would've realized they likely aren't going to require everyone to pay to use the patcher. They took it down so they could implement an account system so people have to sign up to use it (just like they do to use EQEmu), so they can have better control over who leeches files from them, whether it be someone from another emulator project or any of the countless morons who run EQLive and EQEmu out of the same folder so they have to keep re-downloading the files every time they want to play on EQEmu, which sucks up the bandwidth you're not paying them to use.

You give them nothing in return for all the hard work and free services they provide for you. Unless you want to host a patch server for them (no, your DSL or cable modem won't cut it) or develop your own EQ emulator, you're in no place to curse them out. Grow up.

I only have one question.......and that is when will it be back or where can we download the files from.......as you can see I have not been here long but do like it......am helping with a server and need to be able to get on it to test various things that we have been fixing that others seem to be having issues with.......just got all the expansions today and installed them then patched with eqlive now go to the eqemu patcher and its down so I cannot logon if I wanted to.......yes I did make a copry of my eq folder but something has changed because it still does not work.....so once again when will it be up......some sort of timeframe would be nice....otherwise I just might make an emulator.......because it looks alot like ethernalquest all in all

nooooooooo i love EQemu...somebody said "free eq" and i about shat myself, apart from the 3 or 4 times i creamed my pants...and then to have it ripped away... i agree with babar, at least give us a timeframe. i realize you owe us nothing, and indeed provide a great service with no compensation..but please, at least give your fans a time to work with? I REALLY just want to play again, because im leaving on the 28th (today is the 22 :cry: ) and i wont be back for a month and a week..... cmon, my bday is the 25th, maybe bring it back for a day? an hour? a half a min? i love you.... :( :( :( :(

if you patched EQLive after the patcher went down you have to wait until the patcher comes back unless you find another way to patch your files. there are other ways you can patch it. i think somewhere on the hackersquest forums they have another way to patche your files but im not sure of the exact location, you'l have to find that yourself.

another way of getting on without patching is through EQW.

once again this wont work if you patched EQLive and have no other way of getting EQEmu patched without the EQEmu patcher(like a back up file or somethin). just uncheck all the box's on the EQW main start up and set your EQ host path and it should work

Now that the patcher is down I cant play EQ at all . The EQEmu patcher is the only thing Ive been playing on my comp so I'll be waiting for it to come back up . I dont have a regular acount for EQ so Im stuck waiting . I couldnt even comprehend the idea of making a server that a friend made and let me be a server op . I was just learning how far down the "rabbit hole"went . You couldnt even fathom my curiousity . I still have so many questions
that need to be answered that if I start I wont stop. Ive just gotten to use the patcher at my house and then I cant even use it
Ijust really hope it comes back up soon.

you know I enjoyed EqEmu because I could come on here and play on a non-legit server and test out items and go to area's and test them out...I found this very helpful before questing or purchasing items and hunting in certain area's....I realize that EqEmu was not as perfect as EqLive, but it had exceptional quality in my opinion...and whoever disagrees does not realize how lucky they are to have EqEmu avialible to them....let alone how much trouble people such as Hogie have gone to, to bring forth an excellent creation that shadows EqLive...My opinion is EqLive is the best Online Game around and the second best online game is EqEmu...hopefully the EqEmu staff can overlook the sorry ass bastards that dont know the first thing about programing a game such as EqEmu and either bring back version 4.4 or comeback with a new kick ass system....either way I will still look at EqEmu as a great experience for learning more about Everquest zones and items and mob toughness....You guys are frickin awesome in my book :P :P :P

This is for everyone complaining about not being able to get on eqemu because all they have is the eqlive current files....with this, you will be able to play now!

1. Patch EverQuest to the latest patch.

2. Copy the complete EverQuest Directory (C:\Program Files\Everquest\ or whatever filename you have it under) into a new directory. Rename that Directory to "EqEmu" (so it's C:\EqEmu)

3. Go to: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=43828&release_id=98770, Scroll down until you see EthernalQuestEQ (win32) and download Emu_0_6_6a.zip.

4. Unzip the contents of the EthernalQuest Emulator file while retaining the directories (the last part is important and will give the emulator it's own directory and placeall files in the correct sub-directories) with destination: C:\.

If you use "Winzip", that specific funtion is default off. You can switch it on by thicking the small box: "Use Folder Names".

5. Notice the directory C:\EthernalQuest that has been created

6. Open C:\EthernalQuest from the step above and paste all of it

I tried Talon0202's solution (he left out that you have to edit the 2nd line of emuconfig.dat to show the correct path of your everquest files).

It does not work. The problem with EthernalQuest or HackerQuest (both of these sites host the ethernalquest files) is that they rely on EQemu's registration server to update their files.

I totally approve Hogie's choice (even if nobody cares of what i approve or not, of course, but i said it!). at least half of the content of that forum comes from guys who don't read what's written and take it easy by asking all the time the same things... Nobody here is in position of asking or claiming anything about EqEmu, that soft is amazing, developpers do a great great job, support prolly almost all the costs, for the bandwith, the servers and so on... well, in french, i would say : "Chapeau bas, Messieurs !"

And for the patch server, it should only affect those who... didnt followed the instructions because they dont want to read!!! so... well... how to say... next time, you ll pay attention to what you do...

I'm going to make the assumption that you've under-estimated your needs. If you're going to run a project of this size with this many followers you'd better be prepared. I can see that you aren't.

For Aspirax, short resume of the post :

People who play both EqEmu and Eqlive, without duplicating the folders where they store the game, have to patch their game each time they swap from one to the other one. Doing this, they use way to much of the bandwith Hogie's paying for. Hogie says that the donations are welcome but never said that there will be a fee for using the patcher. The dev team is working on a login engine that will keep traces of what players download. So, they will see who doesn't follow the instructions and repatch all the time their files, and will take actions against them.

As for Muuss.... Please give us more credit than you do. I found this site the day before the patcher went down. It took 6 hours to patch everquest and expansion (yes I had one of the first versions). The next day I got on and played till I got booted. Being able to run without the patcher was unclear to me.

People make mistakes... and are human, please give them some credit.

I still agree that this is Hogie's baby and he has the right to do what he likes. Bandwidth stealing is an issue, and he has the right to address it. Even so HE never called people dummies for not understanding the patch program - follow his lead.

Ya, you're right about more credit for people who are rookies with that kind of projects. Tho, the major fact is that most of them dont read the instructions and just click everything everywhere without trying to undestand... gniiiii, that Windows (tm)(c) culture makes me becoming mad ! :D

Perhaps some people should work on a better documentation (easy to say, of course, more hard to do, or to get involved in) and provide more clear technical details for the less experimented users...

I give out warnings - I don't punish people. Hacking is illegal and would get me banned. Rather than "hacked", I think your posts have been altered, because your actions are not in compliance with the registration agreement that you clicked "I agree" to. I think one of the board admins changed your posts, which is allowed under the agreement.
