I think a simple solution exists...
limit the patch server to 10 connections and 3kb/sec for each.

in this way, people may wait one time the queue and download time, but certainly they will not do it a second time...

and you will have free bandwidth for your site :)

sorry for my english

eh? i'm not english, so i don't understand if you are... uhm.. somewhat sarcatstic, or not.

Still, i think that having an emulator that only old ppl are able to use it, and NO help is given, in any way, to new ppl that needs to downgrade their client even for the first time, it not smart too...

Listening to others advice, may be smarter.
If they have problems with the bandwidth, there are ways to fix that... if they don't want to fix that, maybe they don't want new users.

Its not bandwith its ILLEGAL to distribute the patch files. Read the 1938275067 other post on the subject.

Yeah, we don't want American Lawyers attacking the project.

so.. you are telling me that the patcher is down NOT because ppl are patching again and again consuming bandwidth, but because the files are illegal...

that's not the same thing i have read all around the posts...

its down because it had to be down!
whatever the reason is, we will get some benefits of it, getting a newer version of the software and by being sure that we don't break the law anymore!

I don't know if it's illegal or not. I've never read a law that explicitly banned our current activities. It doesn't matter if it's illegal or not. American lawyers can shut down legal projects by sucking the blood out of them, and causing the legal fees to be SOOOOOOOOO HUUUUUUUUUGE that a person has no choice but to either forfeit or go broke trying to win.

So it's not illegal until a judge says it's illegal. But I'd rather not see any of the above happen.

I do know that it would make Sony hate us, and that they don't hate us yet.

It is also down because of bandwidth. Hogie paid a fortune for the hackersquest bogarts to steal his bandwidth without posting or contributing. He also paid a lot so that goobers on this site could patch live, then patch emu, then patch live, then patch emu, then patch live, then patch emu over and over. If they had backed it up, he wouldn't have had to pay for it so many times.

Anyway, quit bringing it up. Host one of your own if you must, when you have the files. Don't make it our problem.

It is not illegal to distribute old versions of a released program to those who have a license. It is BANNED to talk about it and distribute it here and that's the call of the powers that be, they pay for the bandwidth and the code in blood, sweat and tears.

Incorrect... if you don't own the copyright, or have the copyright owners permission, it is illegal (in the US anyway) to distribute a file.

As far as I know, Sony has not given anyone permission to distribute their intellectual property.
