file shareing law fair/unfair?

What do you guys think persinally i think they are going over board. from what i read they can sue up to 20,000$(american) per downloaded song. i find that kinda stupid, throw us normal hard workin people out on the streets cuz them rich peckerheads are loosin like what a few cents per song? i dunno whats yalls opinions?

I can see their perspective... The artists work to create this music, if people dont pay for it, band doesnt get paid, company doesnt get paid, company folds, band goes to work at Arby's , no more music....

Artists deserve to be paid for their art just like anyone else, in the same manner that someone that creates a game has the right to sell it.

Are they going overboard? Yes, the RIAA 's mistake was not investigating electronic music sales rather than going on a witch hunt, but they have the right to protect their property. There are laws to protect you from someone marching into your home and stealing your TV, same principal.

You should always pay for the things you appreciate, like tipping a waiter. Their livelihood is at stake.

Now what you SHOULD be pissed about is atheletes that make 10million a year, one of the reasons I have to pay 60$ to go see a live GD football game, now that is insane, not paying 10$ for the new Saliva cd...

aye i agree with you they should be paid i used the wrong choice of words. hell there would be chaos without music hehe. im just thinkin they should put a bit more thought into it.


i also find it humerous that they are really only focusing on the morpheus and morpheus spoof users and not going into anything like winmx privet servers. that kinda shows me they are being laaazy.

lol as for paying for a cd i have nothing agenst that lol i actually have boughten half of the music ive downloaded just really i dont go anywhere and i like my computer better lol mp3s can sound that much bettah you know.

yeah i also agree paying athleets that much is nuts man. to me thats like getting paid to play video games.. wich also reminds me lol those of you who still play eq live i feel we should be getting paid to play that game LOL not the other way arround. ITS A CHORE! hehe well anyways

Until very recently I wasn't buying music at all. I refused to pay 10 to 20 dollars for a cd that had at most 2 songs that were good. Now there are alternatives. I know most of my friends got the same way, they should have better researched their declining sales. I don't think file sharing is as responsible as record labels piling crap on a cd with 2 good songs.

I think one of the positive aspects of selling music by the song is that it forces the musicians to concentrate on writing better songs, rather than writing 2 good songs, then generating 8 crap songs to fill up a cd..

If the songs not anygood, it's not going to be bought...

i think what they really should do instead of outlawing file shareing completely would be letting people download like 2 or 3 songs off of a cd to kinda test out the cd see if tis worth buying. and have a deletion disclaimer like most roms do. if you dont delet it within x ammount of time its your ass in your own hands.

I think prosecuting for theft is fair. Do I think that charging $20,000 per download is fair? No.

Online music piracy is theft, pure and simple. Everyone who does it knows it. Have I stolen music? Sure. Have I taken a five-finger discount in a store? Sure. I didn't get caught, and I thought I was immune. Nobody ever caught me stealing when I was a kid. Nobody ever caught my friends stealing. If they had, we faced: juvie, expulsion (theft from school), fines, parental punishment. These are heavy punishments for a kid. Do you think you'll get caught, and thus suffer these punishments? Not really.

Stealing online is the same way. The lunchlady is NEVER facing you, and everybody is stealing. She can't catch everyone. The problem, guys, is that they now have hundreds of lunch ladies catching everyone they can. They petitioned the government to increase the punishments, and now that they've done that, they are catching every thief they know how to catch. The government will screw every thief to the floor and smack them with rubber fish and bamboo poles.

The RIAA made some intelligent moves in terms of punishment, but alienated their fan base. We have wants, and they have gone ignored and rejected for too long. I want to sample music. I want to buy only what I want and/or need. If an artist comes up with a clever series of songs, I want just the clever series in that order. I don't want to pay $20 per CD. I don't want to pay $12 per CD.

The movie industry solved this problem by allowing rentals, and that soothes my need for seeing a movie. Rather than paying $8 X 2 for a movie for me and my girlfriend, we can watch a movie for $3.59, and watch it multiple times until my 5 days are up. This isn't as good as owning it, but it gives me an out. I have an option to have a movie with the perks of great sound and massive screen, or a movie in my dingy living room with 2 dogs sitting on the couch. Movies are still stolen, but I'd rather watch it on TV than steal it. It's too much hassle to download that much crap for such awful quality.

The recording industry could learn much from this. Online jukeboxes at 2

ok, i keep on hearing about the RIAA and the fact that they're lobbying (sp) the american government... but what about canada??? (the land where yes and no do not exist.... only the word maybe)

if you live there, can they still charge you? cuz by accessing an american establishment (ie kazaa), are you then considered to be under american law? cuz you never left the country.... so how could you.... (k, i'm not making sense....) :?

If the RIAA finds you in Canada and Canada doesn't protect you, you're in a big pile of doggy doo.

I think if we can punish a kid in the Netherlands for breaking encryption of U.S. companies, we can probably march north and bust up the Canadians. American lawyers have a lot of power sometimes. :(
