Is minilogin broken with .5.0?
If so, will someone be updating minilogin to work with .5.0? Or vice versa?

Yes, minilogon is broken - but minilogon is broken with the latest eqlive client. The problem is not related to the 0.5.0-dr1 release of eqemu.
I don't know where the source code is for minilogon, and I don't know of anyone working on it. Therefore, I'd say it will be a long time before minilogon works again.
Anyone working on an open source version of a logon server?

#gnuls on irc.
Daeken is running it, I believe its at a point of working.
As for fixing minilogin, I believe you have to hex edit something in there.. its broke before and its all that had to be changed. (Some sort of date).

Just replace the version string in minilogin with the current one. Hex workshop for windows works great for that.
As for gnuLS, it's not ready for use yet, as i still haven't had success in making the serverlist packet work properly ;)

ah, cool.. thanks for the info daeken. :D
basicly the same problem that they had a while back, I hex edited myn today even tho i cant use it yet but i guess it worked cause if i try to connect with the 4.4 server it says bad version not sure if they will include it with the next release since its unsupported but ill post it on my site later tonight after work. i also changed the line where it says login server listning on port xxxx to
login serv05 listning on port xxxx

You guys sure hex editing will do the trick for minilogon? The logon protocol changed in the latest client, and LethalEncounter did a new emu logon server for this change.. Which is why it's running on a different port (5997).
I just know that last time a issue came up like this (right when i started playing around with the emulator minilogin didn't work cause of a version issue they hex edited it and it worked. If it doesn't then i think a new minilogin is a must

oz, your minilogin on your website didn't work for me - I get 'Incorrect version' after tons of lines saying Lengths: 360 - sizeof(): 496
LoginServer.ini was read fine. as was Guild rankings, TCP & world server listening on ports assigned - After conneting with login server, fatal error occurs
Hopefully this is an easy fix!
DARN! thx for trying it tho.
I remember one time i found a exec on the site called public login was that the login server used for the public if so would it be possible to release that or a modifyed version of that.

Seems as if publiclogin is no longer being made avilable - What exactly is minlogin looking at to detrmine version? I've tried about 6 different eqmain.dll's, and no success - Seems a shame not to have some sort of fix for this, as many of us use/contribute with the emu locally..

Ignore the last post - I have it working

There is a new MiniLogin.exe up on SourceForge now, and I just verified that it works perfectly with the latest CVS changes just checked in this evening.
Many Kudos to the EQEmu team!
