Ive just started reading up on the many guides of starting a local lan server, so im going to give it a go in the next few days.

What i want to know is, will my "extra" comp that i have be powerful enough for 2 people (just me and my wife)

Bare with me, its a pos comp and very old :)

P3 - 600 mhz Celeron
64mb SDram
11mb On board video
10 gig hd
Windows 98SE + all updates (unsure if it could even work with win2000, and i know it wont with XP)

So there it is, my pos box, but i need to do something with it.

My only other choice is to try and run a server + client on my main machine (ive heard its damn near impossible and to not try it)

-main machine-

p4-2.0ghz
512 ddr ram
20gig 7200rpm hd
Geforce 4 TI4400

Think its possible? :) Any info would be greatly appreciated, just a yes/no answer, and a quick reason why. I would rather not have to try and upgrade that machine, because im broke, so please no "buy more of this and upgrade that" posts :) Just a quick yes/no and reason(if no) will do fine!

Thanks!!

I have run everything (client and server) on a P3 866 before at the same time, and it worked fine, so you will probably be ok, particularly with just 2 of you. I have never dealt with a Celeron, so I don't know how slow it is. If you find it really bad, you might want to consider loading up linux on it, and running MiniLogin on your windoze box, and the world and zone services on linux. That is now what I do and it works beautifully. There is no linux version of MiniLogin, which is why I run it on Windoze. You would need to run it under wine to run it on Linux the way it is right now, and that sucks up far too much CPU.

Good luck

Cool, im gunna try and do a server + client on my main machine, and see how that goes.

I do have 2 really small questions for settting up my server though, im using this guide : http://forums.eqemu.net/viewtopic.php?t=6904 and theres 2 parts in there i dont have, and cant find/get....How would i go about going around that?

the 2 parts are the eqbackup00.zip file that contains his already created database (a plus for me, since im programing challenged) and the eqemu patcher, which i know is gone forever.

How can i get around those steps in that guide so i can set up my server? :)

Thanks again for any help, and keep up the good work! :)

You dont need the patcher since you have the correct version of eq needed to use 4.4.. so just dissreguard it.
