Definetly has been an immature channel in my experience. But since the drama it has gone to new lows. I'm waiting to see how things look when the dust settles.

Mem, TCS, in this case, in the 1st dialogue, I have to say that the kick/ban was earned due to the language. It was a filter that caught you guys there. Kami was being a p***k , but responding like that wasn't proper either. As to why he has op access, I have no idea, someone at some point decided to give it to him.
I agree, generally the content in eqemu is stupid, pointless, and unrelated to the project, which is one of the reasons you will rarely see me say anything in the channel, but you must remember that it is frequented by children, which is one of the reasons for a language filter. I really do agree that you got what you deserved in that case. On the other hand, I agree that Kami was not representing the best interests of the project with his behavior either.
You know that I like both of you guys, and hate to see an incident like this defer you from working on the project, but unfortunately due to the preponderence of young, and immature folks involved, you have to censor your responses a bit. The #eqemu channel is not the best place pertaining to project information.
I agree with you both, but I also agree with the irc response...

mmkay. It was a filter, obviously shown by how quick it came, and also how it did it twice. Even if he was helping with that thing, it doesn't matter, because it was uncalled for for him to say that. Kamik was also the starter of the fight by saying "so you can go to hell" but that doesn't mean he needed to argue back.
If we continue with these constant fights where are we going to get? No where. If we have problems we need to work together to fix them. Rudness from one person doesn't mean another needs to get rude. Additudes are contageous.

Alot of people don't remember also that tone does not necessarily convey across an electronic medium.. I tell people I know to 'go to hell' all the time with a smile on my face, but doing that on a chat channel might not have exactly the same effect as tone and levity don't carry over very well. I can't count the number of times people have misunderstood what I said, typed, etc, just because there was no way for the tone to be carried.... I've offended many people unintentionally this way..

k that filter was a mistake...when we switched to the new network all my settings on my client reset (including all the protections) sooo i had to remove them..i wasnt realy paying attention when this was happening. i was making sure the irc server on my end stayed up. i do apologize for kicking whoever i kicked. i didnt intend for that.
also if you cant reach the irc via irc.eqemulator.net try
lethalencounter.eqemulator.net
baron-sprite.eqemulator.net
devn00b.eqemulator.net

welll... if it was a bot then Kamikaze why didnt get kicked? i know he said the word F**K about 15 or 20 time last night
I think if your going to F**k with people go to yahoo or some other chat room becuase i thougth the irc server was for support not noobs wiht power (like Kamikaze) now i dont have any problems with any one else. but i mean no one is in to it any more Hogie is gone and the smooth running login server and IRC server along with him and tcsmyworld is gone and he is the main person for the NPC move database
PS i didnt really now Hogie so dont get pissed off......
EDIT: also i think it was devn00 who help us set topics. (thanks)

Well, from my experience, Kami has generally been a nuisance in the channel, offering little other than verbal sparring to those that dare ask questions to the channel in his presence. Who and how he managed to get someone to OP him is beyond my comprehension considering he's confessed to not being a coder and, from what I can tell, knows nothing of how to set up EQEmu in general.
just my $.02, take it or leave it,

It was a script, you can code a script to not kick ops heh.

and from my experience the majority of folks there do the same thing. in fact, the only person to EVER be cordial to me at all in irc was Wes.....

just a quick question.... what ever happened to hogie? where did he go? and did that have anything to do with the domain change of eqemu?

its not a bot, he is lying obviously. But does the position he held allow him to act that way? But in my experience IRC is HORRIBLE! Its the worst program in the world becuase its full of horrilbe noobs, and all they want to do is cause everyone grief. I prefer forums, cuz you can ignore people easier.

Obviously, this is coming FROM a "horrilbe noob". mIRC can be very fun, useful, and yes, even helpful at times (for finding out information on the loginserver, for instance)! As to ignoring people...theres a simple command called /ignore <name>.....Try it sometime!

I went to the channel once a long time ago, never went back. I can tell it hasn't changed, possibly has gotten worse. If someone thats new to eqemu joins, I recommend using the forum ONLY, unless you want to risk being made fun of in IRC because you are new and ask a so called "dumb" question.
Just remember (to the people in IRC), you was once new also.

it's a pity that in a lot of cases the driving forces behind the project have the least patience and tolerance for those who wish to understand it a little better, isn't it? :?

In IRCs defense, it's not ALL bad, i've been helped in there before....but for the most part just ignored....So i agree, if your new to EQEmu, Stick with the Forums or send me an email at OmegaGoat@hotmail.com and i'll see if i can help you out, i used to play EQEmu A LOT a few months ago and just starting again (i may still have a few bits of info up my sleeve)

I'm staying away from IRC mostly, I'd say that Wes and Trumpcard are the only mature OPs there anyway, and the last time I checked they are the most infrequent chatters heh.

on *:text:*f*ck*:#: {
if ($nick !isop $chan) {
kick $nick $chan Swear Word Detected
}
}
Thats just a quick example of how a script can avoid ops.
(Forum Filter wont let me say f word, so it says f*ck in the code instead)

The thing that most people dont understand about irc, is that just because you see people there DOESNT MEAN THEY ARE THERE. some people there have an idle time in days.
Just because the devs are there, DOES NOT mean we are there to help you.
Dumb Ops/rude people, if you have a problem with somone (like kami) send a PM to one of the irc ops (list of ops to follow).
Also after getting asked the same question 7000000000 times that is covered in the forums we do tend to get a little bitchy.
Irc is a great tool if used right, you come in asking " Can somone tell me why the pather wont work " expect to be flamed.

You're right , irc is an excellent tool , it's just too bad the majority of the OPs , 1/2 OPs , and helpers (which comprise usually about 1/2 of the population of the channel now) in eqemu irc see it as thier personal little tool to bash then boot people that may actually have something to contribute.
And it's funny how they all seem to think it's funny until one of them does something to totally screw things up , then they De-OP the one that was doing exactly the same stuff as the rest , and blame it ALL on them.
I for one , have not EVER gone into irc chat and asked "why doesn't the pather work?" .
That makes absolutely no sense , since I'm the only person I know of to be even attempting to create an entire moving DB, I must know that pathing IS in fact working.
BUT........
When I go into irc to ask questions about certain aspects of the pathing that don't work , don't work correctly , I get nothing but excuses , or a rash of crap from a bunch of newbies that haven't even contibuted to the project , yet they have OP or 1/2OP status in irc.
SO................
The few simple requests I have made over the last few months have gone unanswered/ignored , or I have been pitched crap when making an appearance in irc to make requests or ask questions.
If thats the way the devs , OPs want to treat contributors , I don't want to be one anymore.
I actually have better things to do with my time , than to try to work without the support of the people that write the program helping fix the little problems that NEED to be fixed to make this work correctly.
Or waste my time making simple requests that will go unanswered for months.
The devs , OPs can make all the excuses they want , but those of us that have been around for a long time , know how things are in irc , and if thats being helpful , I'd suggest figuring things out for yourself , because eqemu irc is just a waste of time.
