I am a new member, and have been playing EQ since Beta, but can no longer afford it. I was JUST turned on to this emu, and it seems to be VERY nice. I do, however have a few questions, that I cant seem to find the answer to by searching (not to say there isnt any topics).

1- I am reading that if you dont have the older version (read patch), dating back to 02, then you will have to rely on 5.0 to play this emu. The question is: is this backwards compatible? Meaning, that if I install a fresh copy of EQ, will it play then? Or do I need the "up-to-date" patched files from that particular date?

2- The other question is: If I wanted to simply play the game at this point (read not having to wait for the servers to be fixed or 5.0 to be release), can I simply set up a server on my own machine? If so, will this make the game playable to me (the AI intact, spellcasting, fighting, and etc...)? I have read the how-to's about setting up the server and it is not THAT hard, but very tedious, for just finding out if I can play it or not. hehe

If this is NOT possible, I will just wait, as I am a HUGE fan of emu's of any kind, and I think what is being done here is THE BEST. I have been wishing for a single player version, so to speak, of EQ since game release. Even moreso when Verrant decided to nerf soloing (not that I am anti-social, just not a power leveler)

Thanks for your time and also for the time invested in this emu as (from what I hear) it is great.

You have to have the Dec patch to play on 4.4(current) with current patches you can get on the 5. servers(beta) and help with the testing so the bugs get worked out.

As for your own server, you cant run a 4.4 server without the Dec patch and you cant run a 5. server unless you have coding experience cause its unsupported till its finished.
