installing the zlib114

when i download zlib 1.1.4 and click on Make_vms.com i get and error from 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem (stating) C:\DOCUME~1\BRANDO~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\Make_vms.com
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:0db7 IP:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX choose close to terminate.

I thought zlib was a linux library. Why are you trying to use it in windows? What exactly are you trying to do here?

That must be the wrong download for zlib. *.com files are from like 1992, you just don't see them these days. Download the *.zip package, and it should contain a bunch of *.h and *.lib files.

PS: It's a c++ lib, and just crunches a bunch of numbers.
