The latest EQ Live Patch (Oct 9) has broken the 0.5.0-DR4 EQEMu code. Don't patch! If you already did, you will not be able to play the emulator until we fix it.
If you see a post asking for help with the 1017 error message, it's very likely the person did not read this message. Just point them to the news section!
The official ETA for this fix is April 12, 2007. Hopefully things will go well and we can surprise you with an early release!

No its not a joke, The Devs get sick of people asking for ETA's so they give an ETA like that so people wont ask :shock:

Hey, and I've got another idea. (Ya, Bumpo has an idea, be amazed)
Why don't you get several people devoted to backing up their EQ folder every day or something and everytime they have a patch they back up to another folder so that you end up with a record (from now on) of all the patched and unpatched files that can be distributed if needed? I know you've most likely though about this before, or are already doing it, but I just thought it would be a good idea.

Giving out SOE's files is against the law. Most people dont patch to live untill they back up there folder, or dont patch till there told its ok.

just my 2 sense on the ETA thing, any moron should know its fake lol, but, if you did it to shut people up, the fac that its over 3 years away would most likely either make people do just that *ask questions* or complain about it : /

as long as it takes. they dont give an ETA because they do it in there free time. Merth gave that ETA because of people bugging about how long it takes. How long it takes depends on the Devs real life. they work, go to school, have kids, have a life. when they have time they will fix it.
And befor people flame about how they need to get it done quicker I have a question for you. How much have you pay'd them to do this for you? What have you contributed to the EMU project?
As Mattmeck says, plus it depends what SOE changed in the patch. If they changed encryption mechanisms or something, could take a while. Just have patience :)

Hey merth i was wondering why it will take soo long to re-patch the eqemu.... I have ALWAYS wanted to play it. Then tonight i download it and followed your instructions on a previous web page and it says "1017 Error" which i know you probably hear alot but is there ANY possible way to fix this??? I BADLY want to play... After saying 1017 again on my 145th try i calming walked down the stairs and beat the living hell out of my punching bag... so please fix it before april 12th... i know it will take time but i BADLY want to play this awesome thing.

I beat heroes quest by getting like 999 daggers and enchanting them with Zap, and my guy was crazy accurate and fast. I also used a lil bug wiht the gold ;)

I tested this with my computer. I made a backup of my eq Folder and then patched, and copied EQGame.exe and eqmain.dll into my new folder ,and i was able to play on all of the DR4 Servers.
Although Im telling you how to play on a DR4 Server again, this does NOT mean you are allowed to distribute those files. Anyone caught doing so will be banned from the IRC/Forums if the other dev's agree it is necessary.

i could have sworn somewhere it told people to have TWO EQ folders....so you can patch one (if your still playing EQlive) and leave the other one for the Emu.....i don't know....maybe i'm just special and think of these things =|
Oh well...something for you guys that patched to think about.
Its also good habit to not patch for a day or two, so you know for sure, because if the devs havn't said anything about it after two days...then i think it should work....
Also...Just assume every patch breaks the Emu. and quit asking for them to hurry up....if your that anxious to play, learn to code, and do it yourself. Just my 2 Copper

I just wanted to tell you guys its not legal to share EQ software, its only the CD keys that are copyrighted for sharing, well thats what the Customer service told me on the phone when I told them my Trilogy disk where scratched.

Then the agent was wrong. Read your user agreement. The software is copyrighted, and redistributing it is illegal. These are facts, and they have been proven by legal issues.

Absolutely positively correct. That agent would probably be fired on the spot for those comments if it was recorded. Understand he is telling the customer not only to break the EULA agreement but also directing him to possibly download a trojan, virus, or a corrupt file. I believe all companies like to indeminify themselves from all lawsuits, not create work for their legal department. :)
You should write a letter to Sony about this and get some free months of EQ for crappy customer/technical support. (Did YOU pay for that phone call?)
I would definitely light up their world about that fact, by stressing these words...
Example letter:

I am a paying customer; paying monthly fees and can not connect due to not being able to install from a CD, which I bought (or got as a gift). My SOE account is: <youraccount>
I called your tech support and the agent instructed me to break the copyright law quoted in my EULA. I was told to get a friend that has this CD or download from any WAREZ site that I could find by the SOE representive.
I can not believe that your agent didn't offer me a temporary username on a SOE FTP site to download the Trilogy software or offer a replacement CD. Why should anyone else pay for bandwidth costs to support SOE Everquest?! Why was I told to break a law, or expose my computer to hackers, virus, or possibe other file corruption issues? I expect SOE to either replace my CD, or give me a full refund for the software purchased, and the monthly fee that was ill gotten.

I've waited a long long long time for an emulator that worked well for EQ... Now I have finally found this, nearly perfected emulator with just a minor (Bug that messes it up?), but since I've waited this long for it I'm sure I can wait a while longer...
But can I wait til 2007? No, doubtful, I might go insane by that date... :P Anyway, to the devs or, whatever you're called (not meaning to be rude just have no idea what to call you guys :/) thanks for the hard work for this emulator and I greatly appreciate what you have done for us people that always wanted to try EQ. 8)

Not really a bug, more of how the client communicates with the server, it was changed by sony, and the devs are just trying to get it back up to date.
Remember, the more features there are, the longer it will take to get it updated, so you have to have patience. 5.0 is gonna be really nice when it's complete.

Absolutely. I wish that 4.4 could be changed to support older clients i.e. Fresh PoP installation from CD-ROM. I understand that this can not be done because 12.02 was the update that changed the encryption( to break Showeq project). BUT Showeq broke that weak encryption again and Eqemu followed suit with its released server.
This moving target of development is pain the arse to say the least. These developers do not have specifications on the protocol nor the encryption. Development started with a reverse investigation/development point of view. The database has changed alot in 10.9.03 update and the database projects have to deal with this issue.
This project is not an easy undertaking and I hope that others know this.

Okay I know i a running an older version, havent patched since LoY was released. Now i am still getting the 1017 error. I am guessing theer is something with the patches that i have thata ren't letting me play since I'm not fully updated?
