First off I want to thank the devs for making EQEMU and giving players some alternatives to the EQ Live servers. Hope you guys keep up the good work.
Now to my real question, I'm new so don't flame me if this is a stupid question.
I noticed that all the servers went down with the recent new 5.0 version that came out. Did the characters on the servers before the new version get deleted? And if so how often do characters get deleted because of something like this?
Any information would be appreciated. Looking forward to the completion of the new version and I'm eager to get on the GuildWars server.

Others, correct me if I am wrong but. . .
The current 0.5.0 Developer Release [DR-4] are developer servers, in which some are not fully dedicated and may clear out player character database over time. But, there are some servers that are Developer Release and are dedicated, that is just a matter of finding out which ones fit this case. Check out the Server Praise / Complaints forum to find out about those servers. These servers tend to keep the characters saved.
The other servers are 0.4.4 servers, which are patched to a december '02 (?) version, and I am sure you already know that trying to attain these files through here are not good grounds to be standing on. Anyways, the 4.4. servers, (which are few) at the moment, are usually dedicated and save your characters . . .
Hope this answers your question.

once 5.0 becomes more stable no more char deletion. Also some has do do with the server admin

I think you were inquiring whether your old character would be deleted. The answer is most likely. In fact, you should get used to character wipes with new versions, as most of the time the character structure changes so much that it would be nearly impossible or too time consuming to convert the characters completely over. But a server as big as GuildWars might have, we'll have to wait and see when the server is brought back up :)
