I have 2 servers running there online out side people can log in to them.

frist server is made up of 3 computers (4.4 server)
1.47GHz (AMD XP1700) and 1024MBs of RAM 80GB HD running windows 2000.
This computer runs MySQL, world.exe and 25 zones.

266Mhz PII 512MBs of RAM 20GB HD running windows 2000
this computer runs FQAdmin tool and minilogin.exe.

633Mhz celeron 256MBs of RAM 4.3GB HD running windows 98SE
this computer runs a back up database and another 25 zones

those are the 3 computer i use in my 4.4 server

Here are the ones i use on my 5.0. This server is only made up of 2 computers
1.4GHz PIV 512MBs of RAM 40GB HD runs windows XP (its a Dell!!)
this computer runs the database, world.exe and 15 zones.

850MHz AMD Duron 512MBs of RAM. 2 160 HDs (320 GBs)
this computer runs minilogin.exe and has everthing backed up on it. also if need i could run about 20 zones on it for 5.0+

I have 1 other computer that i use for eqemu and its my main.
2.08Ghz 80GB HD 640 MBs of RAM and runds windows 98 alos has a Geforce 5 ti 500 64 DDR video card (gets the jop done :) )

LOL is this over kill or what for a server...? :) i have alot of computer s that just site i have an duel PIII computer 3 more PIVs and 4 AMD computers most of them are just sitting arounds also i just got like 6 of these computers for about 100 each (DAMN GOOD DEAL :) ) they came from school that get new computer.

I just felt like posting this becuase I have to shut everthing down..... Ya i know .. I have to get my life on track again i got to get a better jop and pull my self back together.. I am not quitting, once i get a better jop and get everthing back togather and get some time i will be back... also i might be going to jop core to become a computer programer AND FIX MY GRAMMER PROBLEM #$&# lol .... :)

also this has nothing to do with it
6 of these computers for about 100 each (DAMN GOOD DEAL :) )

I need a better jop so i can get a better place and car :)

no. Guildwars runs/will run on much much beefyer of systems.

The origanal guildwars ran on 5 or 6 pc's.

tho for the ammont of peeps i bet yer server has i would say that is overkill.,

See I thought a AMD 1800+ with 768Mb Ram would do for a decent server. How many zones could this run? I've only ever run 8 or so.

i personaly wouldnt run more than 5 - 8 on that pc.

but thats just me...also depends on # of peeps you can support

Warning OT:

Actually I wouldn't run eqemu server on any computer that had Windows NT 4.0 running on it. Upgrade the computer to at least Windows 2000 after you get 512mb of RAM in it.

If using Linux then you possibly could run the eqserver on a PS2, 386 or 486. <J/K>

Speed trials have shown that Win NT 4.0 runs slower than CP/M.

Coming soon, we will compare a Windows-NT system vs. a brick. I'm not going to give away the ending, but I'm going to bet that the brick will win.

There is no such thing as overkill for a server. Just make sure YOU can handle it (maint chores, fixes, etc).

Wise words from Krich! You dumb fortune cookie moron. :P

That's pretty crazy how you have all those computers. I only have one and i'm going to cry because it's 4 years old. :(

What if you only ever expected to host no more than 6 players MAX? Could a server like that be expected to host more than 5-8 zones?

I hope to have a Piv 1.7GHz - 512MB - 40GB drive - xDSL connection.

Also, I will have a Piii 950 - 512MB - 30GB drive - xDSL connection.

Can you(s) give me an idea how many zones could be hosted on these, if I never have more than 6 players (EVER)?

Thanks much,
Aescleal

Original Guildwars:
Athlon XP 1700+ 1024 MB ECC PC2100 DDR (18 gigs)
P3 733 MHZ 256 SDRAM (20 gigs)
Athlon K6 600 MHZ 512 MB SDRAM (2x40 gigs)
Celeron 533 MHZ 128 MB SDRAM (5 gigs, this one didn't last long..)
P3 450 MHZ 384 SDRAM (16.8 gigs)
P3 233 MHZ 96 SDRAM (~4 gigs, originally ran gfaydark, woot!)

If there was only going to be 6 people why would you need more then 8 zones? thats 6 zones for people with 2 left over for when people zone.

Sorry, I'm new to EQEmu, and haven't been able to get a server funtional due to the patch. So I assumed the objective was to have as many zones open as possible, and in a specific order so they linked. One guys plans to have a barbarian, another a drow, another a halfling, another a woodelf...
I figured I'd have to run all the zones connecting these start areas. Am I mistaken here?

I want to prepare for what is to come :!: So I can have happy players!

Can you correct me on this, and explain? I'd really appreciate it. It might help clear up some confusion I have with possible limitations!

Thanks,
Aescleal

What do you think,

Raevenloft will be (so far) 3 computers....

All are,

msi motherboards with Two AMD Athlon 2200+
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=586883&Sku=M452-2200&CatId=177
3gig ram 80 gig HD.

My question is this, is there a way to run two adsl lines into this network and have both utilized? or do i need to make 2 networks and run them both off of one line?

Dont' want to pay for T1 just so alot of ppl can use my server but i want to be able to have alot of ppl, this server is going to be fun.

Aescleal, how it works is, the "zones" actualy are whatever zones people are currnetly using. It has no effect on what zones people can go into, unless you set up static zones that will always be up. The issue of howmany zones to run is handled by, how many people are going to join, then add a couple extra because when someone zones there in 2 zones for a couple seconds.

Also the computer that is running the server can not be used to play on, or be in use for other things.

Kgual,

There are ways of linking two ADSL lines together.

For those that understand, most ADSL lines use ATM as L2 protocol, so there are ADSL modems that actually use a form of IMA to bond the two bandwidths together. One modem, two ADSL lines going into the modem, one ethernet going to your network.

You can also get a router that is capable of load sharing between multiple default gateways. Nothing under $500 comes to mind though.

I'd suggest that you see what your ADSL provider is willing to do for you. You may find that just bumping up your upstream bandwidth will do the trick (and it'll likely be cheaper to boot). Might as well get static IP address/es as well while you're at it.

Thanks Mattmeck,
Those 3 sentences cleared up a weeks worth of frustration for myself and three friends, trying to figure out how we were going to manage running so many servers for so few people in our group!
But if it's the way you are saying, than we don't have to worry so much. 5-6 player, should be able to play on a 1.7GHz server with 512RAM, and have no problems playing... Although I may bump up the RAM to 1024RAM!

Thanks for clearing that up!

definetly bump the ram on that computer or you will all be able to run around not fighting

Woot! you rock. going to try that. Is a twin motherboard overboard thouth? i figure that two cpus on the same board is close to one and a half computers. Maybe i can run 40 or so static zone from one. if i have 3 of them i sould be in a wonderful server..

Have a static ip also. It helps out alot with the config.
