In love w/ forzan's idea.

Honestly, if you didn't have to worry about the treadmill there would be constant action w/ many many players....

.... although leveling is fun for some people.

Anyhow, I didn't necissarily say that I would want Freeport as much as I meant that would be the city that would provide the most action.

Some sort of kill point code with rewards would be really cool also ;P

I will have to run 17 static zones, then another 10+ sleeping zones

and I have 3 computers for the server :P

There are many different ways depending on how you handle it. I'm honestly not sure what image will do, but here is how I was going to handle it:

Two different guard NPCs spawn- each with opposite factions. In a central location of the city is a mayor of sorts- a powerful captain of the guard NPC. Guards have 30 minute respawns.

Killing the Mayor results in the spawning of another mayor with opposite faction and triggers the NPC spawns to change to guard type two- the opposite faction guards. Remaining guards stay behind and fight the new guards, so teams have to work to secure the entire city.

Possible exploits to this system include having second characters of the opposite faction around to log in and kill the mayor with, resulting in an easy kill without a raid. I never got deep enough into coding it, but I imagine I could run a faction check that would make the mayor use high level spells if factions were at certain levels.

Merchants sell and buy from anyone, but guard posts are located near all merchants. Towns are diverse in the selling of charged items, resulting in incentive in holding different areas. Holding Halas grants the ability to purchase healing potions. Holding Neriak provides mana potions. Holding Highhold Keep provides gate and group gate potions to all capturable cities. Attacking the non-capturable cities of Qeynos or Freeport-- established home bases for each team-- grants the aggressor cash via guard drops- the only method to gain gold other than trading player ears (which are also important items for quests).

I've began to babble- this isn't the appropriate thread to do it in either.

All I can say is that that is a GREAT idea! This idea kinda parallels with the whole theme of DAoC(Dark Age of Camelot). If you want ideas, just ask any DAoC player =) In DAoC, guilds can rally together in an enemy's frontier and take over a keep by killing all the guards and bashing down the doors. Once you kill the main guy in the keep, the keep is yours and your guild can claim it.

Re: Guild Wars Server Question

I think Halas would be a good place. The People defending it would have a good chance to keep it defended. Like someone else said, one entrance, a lake to slow them down....Hey, that's what it's about.

Halas would only be useful as a background fortress when you're being attacked from all sides. Freeport would give you access to all surrounding areas in a quick fashion. When talking about usefulness, one might consider that Freeport is closest to the boats to almost all continents. It is closely tied to Neriak, allowing the owner to import people quickly from other war zones to gather and attack Neriak and defend it (also a great fortress). It's a great place to hold battle, and city faction (if applied to bad races) can be dealt with quickly enough. Some races would never be able to claim and hold Oggok if there were a deity faction. Freeport would be a bitch to hold onto, but it would be a great station of attack. It's the only city that has its own major dock.

So when you log on to the guild war server would you automaticaly be assigned a guild?

DannMann99 01-04-2003 02:51 PM

Image, i have to say that that is one of the best ideas for a server that i have heard in a while. It does arise some questions though.

1- if it is a leveling server as well, how will you initially take cities, wouldnt killing off the "Mayor" as someone said be too tough? or to easy later on?

2-... you know i figured i would have more questions than this, i guess im tired or something

and 3- will hogie ever unban me from login servers? Im sorry hogie.

Darn, i can only hope i can not be a jerk so hogie will let me back on. Maybe if i packet collect somethings?

Kanelr 01-05-2003 02:08 AM

lol wonder why EQlive cant think of things like this

DannMann99 01-05-2003 03:42 AM

Image, i have to say, if anyone can do it, it is you. Have you begun work on it yet? can we get an eta?
Take your time though, make it good. :juggle: :santa:
