then why is it still saying a timeout has acoured

chanceibmny 08-29-2004 05:50 AM

Timeouts...

When it says "A timeout has occurred" have you been in the server select screen for a while or is it right after you click "login" after putting in your password? The only times I've ever seen that error is when I login to the server select and go get a soda or something....staying in that screen too long times you out.

No - not even in sever select screen , when we click "login" few seconds (2 maybe) we get "Error - A a Timeout has occured"

Valex 09-02-2004 09:12 AM

Your problem lies in your typing I would imagine.. You need a ":" (colon) after net but before 5996

samandhi 09-02-2004 06:33 PM

@Skitterb123 and Valex

Make sure you followed these instructions to the "T" check them again just to make sure..:

Quote:

1 - Reset Authorization
First you will need to reset your "authorization". You'll need to do this only once, unless eqlive changes the key they use in the client or if you want to change your password. Point your browser to the following age to reset it.
http://www.eqemulator.net/eqresetauthrequest.php

The login/password you enter here is what you would normally enter on the loginserver. It is not your forum account name and password.

Notice it has your IP listed. This is only needed in resetting your authorization. Once your authorization is updated, you can log in to the login server from any IP (see below).

2 - Login to EQ
First, change your eqhost.txt to:
Code:
[LoginServer]
Host=eqemulator.net:5996
Also go into your eqhost.txt file and make sure there are no spaces after the ] on the first line and after 5996, AND make sure there is NO blank line after this. This MAY not make a difference, but sometimes, depending on what text editor you are using it will insert a /n (newline) character after that and could be misinterpreted....

Skitterb1234 09-02-2004 06:52 PM

[LoginServer]
Host=eqemulator.net:5996

is what my eqhost.txt
i dont think im doing anything wrong and i've followed the instructions over and over again.

samandhi 09-02-2004 07:02 PM

Make sure you are patched to live... Then REMAKE a different account from the beginning... then delete your eqhost.txt file and hand type a new one (not copy and paste) to make sure there are NO spaces in it... then try again...

Cisyouc 09-02-2004 07:07 PM

I can tell you whats wrong.

You have spaces after each line. Remove them.

Looks as though you are right, AND he has a blank line after also... Need to get rid of that...

[edit] Think I am going to add this to my "One Stop Error Guide" obviously this is a repeating problem... hehe.

Skitterb1234 09-02-2004 07:16 PM

[LoginServer]Host=eqemulator.net:5996

like so?

Not
A

No... Type this into your eqhost.txt file just as it appears (except when I tell you to hit a key or type NOSPACE...

Code:

[Loginserver]NOSPACEHitEnterNow
Host=eqemulater.net:5996NOSPACEDoNotHitEnter

Now save the program, you should see the blinking cursor RIGHT after the 5996 with NO spaces before you save... This will make it correct...

Skitterb1234 09-02-2004 07:23 PM

im confused...
What do u want me to put into my eqhost.txt
[LoginServer]Host=eqemulator.net:5996

or
[LoginServer]
Host=eqemulator.net:5996

im not sure what you mean , sorry .. maybe my computer is set at a diffrent format..?

samandhi 09-02-2004 07:24 PM

Can you NOT see how I have typed it out for you?

PM me your email address, I will just email it to you..

Skitterb1234 09-02-2004 07:27 PM

samandhi 09-02-2004 07:28 PM

Okay do this:

Save this as eqhost.bat in your EQ Directory:

Code:
@echo off
echo Generating eqhost...
if exist eqhost.txt del eqhost.txt
if not exist eqhost.txt echo COULD NOT FIND EQHOST.TXT, but creating anyway...
echo [Loginserver]>eqhost.txt
echo Host=eqemulator.net:5996>>eqhost.txt
Echo Done.
pause
exit

Then go into your EverQuest directory where you saved this and run it. If it brings up Notepad, you didnt save it under the right name. If it brings up a dos window and says "Done" at the 2nd to last line, then hit enter and start EQ.

Yeesh.
