Guild Wars Server Question
A new server type is being created, guild wars server. This idea was originally brought up by Merkur, where you would have guilds in constant wars with each other to take control of the classic everquest (Antontica, Odus, Faydwer), my question to you is, which city or cities would you want to conquere overall and protect the most.
Note: Vote for Grobb if you want Oggok (wouldnt let me add an 11th) |
Kelethin would be a sweet city to defend/attack ^_^
|
Interesting idea. Being the PvP freak that I am I would most likely have to say Freeport. This is where the real action would be...
all sides will meet in the middle. Freeport, gentlemen, is the middle. |
Halas would be good to defend... 1 entrance and a big lake.
|
Akanon
I love gnomes would be great to have that be an end city were people would have to fight through Gfay, Lfay and steamfont to get to it. Plus there is a King in Akanon.
|
I think Erudin would rock since it is on a island all on its own with the only way in is through the transporters. Definate plot/storyline potential.
|
Freeport (all zones)
|
what!?! Kelethin would be the best! 3 lifts and multiple levels would mean some sweet fights!
|
Neriak owns u fewlios
Neriak is the coldest shit in everquest, and u know u want it.
|
Long ago, I had an idea similar to this one (Freeport vs. Qeynos), but it was limited to Antonica only, and the hottest claim on the map was Highhold Keep.
I'm not too knowledged about this server- but with my idea, everyone started at level 30, there was no leveling, and items were the only things you could progress with. Full corpse loot keeps players from becoming too powerful and gives death a reasonable punishment, simple and fun quests give methods of gaining the items again after death. Might I suggest the guildwar follow this pattern? Requiring players to level in a PvP game such as this one detracts from the fun and removes balance from the system. |
Kelethin would definately be fun. You would have guards guarding the lifts, and above you'd have everything protected from the evil, and if evil was coming up the lifts, you'd be ready to get them, and if possible the women and children can hide at the top :D
Halas would be cool, because its a one way enter and you have to go across the water into a sort of small opening to the town. You could hide in a lot of places in the town too. Would be an easy to defend because guards at the front of the cave outside of the town could run in and warn you. Neriak, well.. it's too big for an EQEMu server. But if you were too have like 300 vs 300 players go to war, you'd have people outside the tunnel, inside guarding the gate, people inside the gate, people behind the gate, on top of the gate, and thats just the first part, theres 2 other zones for more people to hide and rape. Since its a classic server you can't include paineel, but an underground city that requires a key to get too that has a top part that can be guarded from the jungle, the inside on top of the lift, and the outside area which leads to the hole and warrens. --Edit:-- For the people that voted for freeport, you just made a bad mistake. Why would you want to guard a town that has so many entrances. People from plane of air could sky dive into your town, theres two gates, theres a secret entrance for bad guys. You have a dirty little houses where ninja monkies can hide. Unless you expect 500 people to guard freeport, your shit in trouble. |
Its going to be a legit server
|
Paineel was an optional zone download for original eq, then shipped on the kunark cd. So I'd include it myself for original eq(also makes sense considering the class/diety combos allowed for erudites, hence why they added it)
|
Im not going to make paineel a conquerable zone, I have enough static zones I have to manage as it is.
|
You can have Light Side and Dark Side, both good or evil towns. Then, in the middle, a town with something every one want, a kind of Graal. There is NPC guards who guard it first then the first conqueror guard the town and you go on and on :)
(NPC could still get back as the town masters) |
In love w/ forzan's idea.
Honestly, if you didn't have to worry about the treadmill there would be constant action w/ many many players.... .... although leveling is fun for some people. Anyhow, I didn't necissarily say that I would want Freeport as much as I meant that would be the city that would provide the most action. Some sort of kill point code with rewards would be really cool also ;P |
this is a guild wars server not race wars =0/
|
Great Idea!
I would like to conquer them all
|
Hey Image how many static zones are U running? Just wondering we are almost full static atm we are adding a 3rd zone server to help with the proc usage?
Darqsoul Serverop Pantheon Server |
I will have to run 17 static zones, then another 10+ sleeping zones
and I have 3 computers for the server :P |
how do you make a zone conquerable ?
Freeport gets my vote |

Two different guard NPCs spawn- each with opposite factions. In a central location of the city is a mayor of sorts- a powerful captain of the guard NPC. Guards have 30 minute respawns. Killing the Mayor results in the spawning of another mayor with opposite faction and triggers the NPC spawns to change to guard type two- the opposite faction guards. Remaining guards stay behind and fight the new guards, so teams have to work to secure the entire city. Possible exploits to this system include having second characters of the opposite faction around to log in and kill the mayor with, resulting in an easy kill without a raid. I never got deep enough into coding it, but I imagine I could run a faction check that would make the mayor use high level spells if factions were at certain levels. Merchants sell and buy from anyone, but guard posts are located near all merchants. Towns are diverse in the selling of charged items, resulting in incentive in holding different areas. Holding Halas grants the ability to purchase healing potions. Holding Neriak provides mana potions. Holding Highhold Keep provides gate and group gate potions to all capturable cities. Attacking the non-capturable cities of Qeynos or Freeport-- established home bases for each team-- grants the aggressor cash via guard drops- the only method to gain gold other than trading player ears (which are also important items for quests). I've began to babble- this isn't the appropriate thread to do it in either. |
All I can say is that that is a GREAT idea! This idea kinda parallels with the whole theme of DAoC(Dark Age of Camelot). If you want ideas, just ask any DAoC player =) In DAoC, guilds can rally together in an enemy's frontier and take over a keep by killing all the guards and bashing down the doors. Once you kill the main guy in the keep, the keep is yours and your guild can claim it.

Re: Guild Wars Server Question
I think Halas would be a good place. The People defending it would have a good chance to keep it defended. Like someone else said, one entrance, a lake to slow them down....Hey, that's what it's about.
|
Halas would only be useful as a background fortress when you're being attacked from all sides. Freeport would give you access to all surrounding areas in a quick fashion. When talking about usefulness, one might consider that Freeport is closest to the boats to almost all continents. It is closely tied to Neriak, allowing the owner to import people quickly from other war zones to gather and attack Neriak and defend it (also a great fortress). It's a great place to hold battle, and city faction (if applied to bad races) can be dealt with quickly enough. Some races would never be able to claim and hold Oggok if there were a deity faction. Freeport would be a bitch to hold onto, but it would be a great station of attack. It's the only city that has its own major dock.

So when you log on to the guild war server would you automaticaly be assigned a guild?
|
Image, i have to say that that is one of the best ideas for a server that i have heard in a while. It does arise some questions though.
1- if it is a leveling server as well, how will you initially take cities, wouldnt killing off the "Mayor" as someone said be too tough? or to easy later on? 2-... you know i figured i would have more questions than this, i guess im tired or something and 3- will hogie ever unban me from login servers? Im sorry hogie. Darn, i can only hope i can not be a jerk so hogie will let me back on. Maybe if i packet collect somethings? |
lol wonder why EQlive cant think of things like this
|
Image, i have to say, if anyone can do it, it is you. Have you begun work on it yet? can we get an eta?
Take your time though, make it good. :juggle: :santa: |
Opening sometime in February
