all you need to do is run the everquest patcher and let it update to the latest version of EqLive. Then you can play on 0.5.0 servers.

You don't need eqfix to play on the new 0.5.0 servers, just patch to the newest version of EQLive, change the .txt file, and you're ready to go!

are you using 0.4.3? I had a similar problem using that version. I would sayuse 0.4.2 (but that would be a step backwards), or 0.4.4 DR1, I haven't used that one yet.

I've been using the emu for 'bout a month now, and what i've noticed is that, although there are enough servers, there don't seem to be any whith a real storyline, or even (many) quests for that...

Well, no, you shouldn't patch live unless you don't want to play eqemu for a while. If you really want to play live, backup your eq-directory and put it back when coming back to the emu.

I keep getting a message saying it can't connect to the patch server.
I installed MDAC2.7 and use w98se.
