Should I be running something else besides Everquest?

I keep gettin the timeout error, I tried the 5996 and 5994. Same thing, how do we tell what version were running?

I have the EQ Platinum edition and i only installed the classic version and then...

I have EQ cds sitting here should I install them and not let it patch or how would I go about playing? Or is it just not possible anymore?
