You should be able to patch and still play the emu with no problems... If you're concerned, just make a backup of your emu folder and then you'll have nothing to worry about :D

In your eqemu directory, run everquest.exe. That will patch to live. Then change your eqhost and make sure that you have your shortcut set up right.... That's all you should have to do
