What I've been doing for the Guidebook is a generic log of what initially works and what doesn't. I'm still a little unsure on special material numbers - with the exception of playable races. I haven't seen any material work where a #texture change didn't, but there's always the chance that I missed a buttload of models someplace by not testing everything.
To get a 100% complete list of every possible model for every zone is going to take a hell of a long time. I admire anyone who can actually finish that task.
