Armor Dyes
We have come across an issue where we would like to get the users opinion. On Everquest Live whenever you "dye" an armor piece you are actually only dye'ing the slot, not the item itself. Now this is great because you dont have to dye multiple pieces of armor if you want to have the same color for multiple pieces that fit in the same slot. However, this process makes no sense if you think about it. If you "dye" socks from white to green in real life you cant simply put on another white pair of socks and have it magically turned green. Not only does it not make sense, it gives people that like to have multiple colored armors a headache. Since its dying the slot and not the armor, you can not carry multi-colored equipment around with you - you would have to dye it each time. We were thinking about maybe adding a db variable that let the server owner decide which way to go (EQ Lives way, or the correct way), but we would really like to get the users opinions about which one makes more sense and which one they would rather see in the emu...

I'm not going to vote and say give them a choice somehow. Have it be player set ingame. Cause it's not fair to just go with majority.

why are you asking anyways if it will be a variable that the server owners change anyway? i for one(if you guys add the feature)will probly have it so that its like real life.

Well one, because we are curious and two because I said we are thinking about adding a db variable. If the vast majority of the users dont want to use eqlives ghetto system, I'm not going to waste any time making a db variable. Lastly even if the results arent vastly overwhelming and we add in a db variable we will still need a default for it.

Personally i like the idea of being able to die items and not the slot. I dont like the idea of being confined to one color...
When the crafted armor came out that you could die it was all the rage for a while. PPl wanted to customise the look of their toon even if the armor was not functional in say a raid event..
I'm all for an option in say the Variables that would give us control as the eather or..
Thanks for the poll guys, you rock!

i don't know....
if you sell died (grammer be good???) armor, will it stay the same colour when it is transfered to another player?
ex: if someone dies thier sheild pink, and they sell it to a merchant and/or trade it, will it still be pink? cuz if so, i don't want that sheild....

I think the way it is now makes much more sense.

My vote
Yes, i do think that the server owner should choose, but if i had to pick then i'd say that the dye for every peice of equipment is best.

i think it should dye the armor piece itself. because i mean we can summon the stuff to do it, or you can summon your own item. i dont think we will have the problem of actually being stuck with another players choice in color.

I think EQEmu's way is the best and more realistic, however if you can include a variable in the DB that let the player choose and if it's not a big work then i guess it's the best solution
Anyway Dyed armor isn't the priority of many EQ players

what about allowing players to dye the items by themselves instead of the slots, and add a quest command that could affect the color or reset it; that way, it could provide openings for fun things, like for example, qualifying guildmembers/officiers/leaders by the color of their armor, or such.;. just a thought.
