Default Test server /testbuff

For about a month now ive wanted to teach my wife to play EQ. But she wanted to play a class that i really had no gear for and she didnt like much to be low level and solo. Also the server i run on is over populated with rude people who swear way too much. So when i heard about /testbuff on test server, i sat my wife down, and created us both chars on the server and we testbuffed.
It automatically dinged my wife and i level 25. Gave us both all our spells and MAXED our skills to our level (Majorly Cool) Also gave us a full suit of armor and weapons. Gave me 2 PSU's and a full suit of gear, gave me about 35 wisdom and alot of str and stamina. Its AWESOME gameplay too because my zone times are like WAY fast, and people are more likely to group with me.

Asked a level 65 necromancer how long he has been on the server, he said since original EQ came out. Then i asked him how long its been since the server has wiped. He said Kunark. Right before kunark came out they wiped the server then stated that was the last time they would wipe the server. They keep all the people on the server now instead of wiping because they need high level people to test the new content for the expansions coming out. POP needed a bunch of 60+ people to test out each zone and so on and so forth.

This is really a great server to test out your skills to see what class you truely prefer to play. I think its a pretty spiffy idea that SoE came out with.

Now if only we can convince them to make a goof off server where we can do some of the eqemu stuff =) Maybe increase spawn rates too.. soon as they pop they spawn!!!! that would be neeto. You could raid all night long HEHE. Sorry just being silly

I played on test for more than a year. There are alot of great things about the server, and alot of cons.

PROS:

Not many people. You can get what you want , I never had problems with any camps.

Less idiots in general.

More contact with GM's/Testers. I routinely chatted with the near famous Ester the Tester alot, and several of the developers and lead GM's. Nice people all.

CONS:

Not many people. Forget an economy, forgetting using trade skills and making money with it. Not as immessive of an experience.

ALOT more down time, and they dont tell you when its dropping. They will drop the server out from under you anytime they want. We had drops during planes raids for an hour or more.

Bugs. It is a test server after all.

Guilds and folks on test tend to be SNOBS and ELITIEST. Im about the most laid back person in the world, but some of those smug assholes really got on my nerves....

You have to weigh it. I enjoyed the time I spent on test, but ultimately because of the type of gamer i am (more RP'ing), I would have enjoyed that time on a live server a bit more.

True, i did see a few elitists there who thought they were hot stuff, i like to test out chars there.. not live for SURE! If i were a hard core soloist maybe i would stay there, but probably not since its not worth the trouble of having to LFG for so long.

I did very well there as I played a druid, and it's about the most soloable class in the game along with the necro, so I had alot of fun. After awhile I grew to miss the action and activity of a live server, sure there's alot of goofballs, but theres also alot of fun and interesting stuff going on..

Ah, making me think about SWG even more now...

lol. They shouldve made it so.. if you have a level 65 character, you can /level atleast to 30. They basically ripped daoc's idea as usual, so why not just rip the whole thing.

No they didn't heh. The idea of testbuff is so folks can log onto test and help them test things without having to grind from level 1.

I really doubt it's a cover story. That feature has been on test for quite a while now; that's where the idea for my placeitem quest function came from. :p

I created a character on that server, but didn't feel like grinding up another character on a test server. I didn't know about the test buff at the time. How does that work exactly? Where or how do you get it?

The EQ test server that contains the /testbuff command has nothing to do with eqemu.

The /testbuff thread is not the place to do that. There's plenty of threads here explaining what to do. I suggest you start with the FAQ forum.
