Default Legal status?

Firstly I would just like to commend everyone for their work on this project, it is simply astounding. I was impressed before even combat was in. Anyway:

I would just like to know what the legal status of this project is? Basically the only things I can see that would be a deciding factor are that the emu uses the EQ client and it's content... Is Verant even aware of this project (that anyone knows of?)? Cheers.

I'm sure they must know about it, Also I think the fact that the emu uses they're files stops them from sueing. People still have to buy the game from them. As long as people don't start making warez versions of eq I feel this project is safe.

just my two coppers

Were there ever any legal problems with the Ultima Online emulators (UOX, Sphere etc)? They have been fully functional for at least a year I think, and UO still seems to be going strong (as far as I know, since there's a new expansion pack for it out recently)
Just curious, I've never played or been involved with UO and wondered if anyone who had knew anything about the history of the emulators for it.

Oh, they've had emulator shard servers for UO for a few years now. They never hammered those guys.. Oh course now that S-H Todd Mcfarlene is involved with UO, so I wouldnt be surprised if that lawyer happy SOB started sueing everyone...

They (VI) wouldn't have grounds to sue on. There is no piracy of any type or violation of copyright information, and none of the ingame code is being used.
