Default Modem Issues?

I've scanned the board looking for a solution to my problem, but have not found anything yet.

I just bought EQ-Evo (The pack with the original EQ and five expansions). I installed everything and it downloaded all the updates and patches - took about 9 hours on my modem. After I finished, I had to install DX9, which completed and I rebooted, etc. Everything ready to go.

I don't have a live account yet. I wanted to test the game out on an EQEmu server first, to make sure I liked it and that I had no hardware issues, etc. before I coughed up the money for the game's subscription.

I came across Winter's Roar, and followed all the instructions to connect to EQEmu. Everything went fine. I got through the title screens, and all the way to the server selection. When I tried to enter Winter's Roar, it wouldn't let me in - "check your login settings" etc. So, I decided to try one of the other servers i saw listed. I've gone down the whole list of them, though hours it took.

All of the servers (if they don't give me the login settings error) let me load everything up and create a character 100% smoothly. But then, when I tell it to use the character, and start the game, it goes to the EQ loading screen, like it's trying to connect.

Half of the servers that I can get this far in say "You have been disconnected", and send me back to the server selection screen. The other half switch to a black screen for a good 30 seconds, then ship me back to the server screen without saying anything.

While looking for answers to my problem, I've scanned the boards, and all of the modem not connecting problems took place in 2001 and 2002 - a few scattered in '03. The answers are all the same: "EQEmu has issues with dial-up. It's being fixed in the next release" But there have been several releases since these post were made.

My question, I suppose is: Does EQEmu still have compatability problems with dial-up modems?

Or is that even my problem here?

AMD 2000+, 64mb nvidia, 256ddr
game settings all on minimum memory/graphics usage

I would try a live character, but i'm hoping i can test play EQ before I pay, so I'm hoping someone here can help me.

EQEMu still has issues with dial-up, which may receive a partial fix here and there over time, but I doubt modem users will ever be able to play as smoothly as on live.
So, you gotta wait and pray or upgrade to DSL

If you bought a package shouldn't you get a free month? If so, you can test live for a month without having to pay for it.

Also, if you JUST installed and patched, that might be part of your problem, as it says in the News forum, NOT to patch on the 23rd or after....
