I have been playing Eq and Eqemu for quite a long time. During this time i have played on many different servers. There have been many original servers like raid addicts, guildwars, and winters roar, but it is all generally the same. So ive been thinking, why not make something that is original, like a totally new concept. We can totally change items, and as servers like GW and RA demonstrated we can even alter the game a litle. I know we cant do anything too radical because we cant change totally everything but why not try to experiment with what we can do using eq and eqemu. But i didnt just come here to propose that we rattle our brains for a while, i came here with a concept for a new server. My server will be a pure PvP server, without any PvE. There will be no lvling and no tedious farming for exp. On this server people will succeed in PvP not because of countless hours wasted away on sitting in front of the comp and lvling but on the skill, ingenuety, and brains of the person. This server will allow the casual gamer to succeed and not only the power gamer. Right well i better already start talking about it.
The server will be 2 team PvP. One team against the other for control over terriotory. All players will start and pick one of the teams. Then they will be recruited into the militia and forced to become an apprentice. There will be several "master" NPCs who they will talk to and who if they decide to become their apprentice will lvl them to prolly to lvl 30 or 32, give them spells and items that will be decent but not too good. This set will be made in such a way that all the classes will have a fair chance, so no extremely high AC or resists. This is similar to picking a class in team based shooters. There will be 2 bases and several other zones for the teams to conquer. Controlling a zone means extra team income and certain benefits. PvPing will award Honor points like GW points. The only benefit that these points give u is the ability to advance rank. Hihger ranked people will be higher lvl but still not good enough to really aid them in battle it is purely for the sake of raising them above the soldiers. The highest pointed people will have duties other than fighting. The king who is the person with the most points, or the person the people elect, will disperse the income from the zones to go to either supplies, like potions or charge items, or place guards in controlled zones. The lower rank people will work like in the army. Officers will lead 6 people groups, higher people will lead the officers, and yadda yadda yadda. Hopefully well be able to use the GOD group leader skills and stuff but its not necessary. The objective is of course to conquer the other persons base. Hopefully my server will get a lot of attention and we will be able to hold real battles with many people. There will also hopefully be tactics in the battles, kinda like the test of tactics on Live, so that its not just pure numbers If youre wondering, both teams will have the same classes and the same items, but will probably be dyed different so the ratio of teams should be the same.
Right well i didnt just come here to tell you about my server. I may have played on Eqemu for a while but i know almost nothing about running a server or source code. I am looking to assemble a team of people who will of course get GM who know something about these things so that we can implement the Honor points, and different other features that are unique. Also I could use some people who are just willing to help with balancing, items, quests, and other things.
