if i start playing eq emu does my original eq account get deleted, or can i still have it?

You will keep your EQLive account, EQLive (SOE) and EQEmu have no affiliations, those are 2 differents entities and having an EQEmu account wont get your EQLive account deleted.

Unless you are stupid enough to go telling Sony that you play here because they say in their EULA that they will delete your account if you do. But it doesn't happen because they cant find out unless you tell them and no one is stupid enough to do so.
