I know this is probably repetative, and annoying from all the newbs around here asking the same things, buuuuut.......

I've played EQ for a long, long time now, and my cousin had played EQEmu and recommended it to me, since it was free, and would allow you to use many commands to summon creatures etc.

I know nothing at all about this SQL, Perl, or whatever junk, but up until today, I have had all patches etc, and I would like to transfer to playing a server here, just to have fun. I downloaded whatever pack there was on the Setup Guide, but apparently it doesn't work, I switched the 5994 to 5998 and thats probably the most technical thing I could do as far as finding an answer and using it to troubleshoot.

Okay now, what I would like is some help on how to get some kind of version that will comply with my up-to-date patched game or some way to backtrack patches to allow me to log into all of these servers. I am getting an error when I log into the server select where there is one Preferred server, and three other servers, to which none of them login, and give me a 1017 type error message. All I want is some how-to for setting up to play on any server (would prefer something I could totally mess around for fun, like non-legit) and a tutorial on how to get into the game and use the commands available.

If you had the time to read this and/or give me some help with the situation, I am thankful. All I want is a version where I can progress quickly and play around instead of being so hardcore into grinding levels etc, I have school started up recently and don't have nearly enough time to devote to leveling the regular way and obtain items that way also, so if you are able to assist me, thank you.

This isn't the answer you wanted but...

If your client is patched to live, you are broken. end of story... it's sad but true.

If I am seeing this right your just looking to login to another persons server and you really wont need to know anything about SQL or how the Emulator works. You just need to login to their server following the guides for that.

The biggest problem your stuck at now is the "patched to live" problem. Unfortunatly SOE changes something major just about every patch to keep us on our toes. To even ask about how you can "backpatch" on these forums is against the rules of the forum and deffinetly moving us further out of our happy gray area of not altering the SOE Lisenced Client.

But stay active on the forums "check them every day" and I would say the best thing to do would be to patch to live right now and write down that date. Then just wait for the OK from the DEV's here about a server that will run with the patch date you have,

Also it is allways a very good idea to make a seperate folder for EQ to use with EQEMU, that way you wont run the risk of patching it and you can still enjoy EQ Live like alot of us here still do.
