Default Everquest (not responding)

It allows me to sign into my account but when I go to chose the server and hit login the game sits there for about 5 seconds and then the screen will go all black and my computer will say that its not responding. If I leave it up for long enough it will eventually kick me off and bring me back to the account sign in screen. If i re-sign in it will come up with Error 1017. Does anybody have any idea how to fix this?

Have you tried more than 1 server? And does the same problem happen for you on every server? And are you playing from your home where you have your own router/modem, or are you playing from a dorm or something?

Sounds like your school is blocking some of the required ports for playing. Probably ports 5998 and maybe 9000 as well.
