Default Questions about patching!

Hey!
I found my old, oooold Everquest cd. However, I've read in the emulator's webpage that I shouldn't patch the game. Is this true?
Can I play with mi '98 cd?

I tried to, but the game said it couldn't find the eqhost.txt file, which I modified to run this emulator.

Thanks!

No, you should patch the game, and once you have it working with the latest version (latest patched version of EQ works with 3.6), make a copy of it, and only patch that copy when they say it's ok. Out of the box, you need to patch to current.

If you have been away from EQ or EQemu for a while it's a good idea to ask someone in the chat room if its safe to patch. some patches we cant fix fast enough for a fast release so sometimes its best not to patch.

Thanks for the quick answers .
However, the Sony servers for patching seem to be the slowest thing on earth. Is there any other alternative way to patch the game, instead of using Sony's server?

Hehe, not likely. While I don't have the fastest connection on earth (a simple 128kbps cablemodem), it is enough to download stuff. Sony's server, on the other hand, takes way too much time. Same happens when I download patches for Ultima Online. I found an alternate way to patch UO, and was looking for something similar in Everquest.

Oh well, guess I'll just have to put up with it.
Thanks again

Okay, I managed to patch the game, change the eqhost.txt, modify datarate, but I still get disconnected all the time!
Does somebody else has this problem? and if so, how did you fix it, because, sadly, datarate didn't work for me. Also, can I enter the green servers, or are they reserved for developers only.
