In the past I've changed indoor zones to outdoor and set them to perpetual night. It adds a really nice effect to some zones in how they are lit, particularly dungeons. I did it in codecay on an early dungeon crawl server and it made for some really spooky atmosphere.
I haven't added light-giving objects specifically for their light, but I think adding things like campfires and torches produces a light. You can run the listobj utility from your EQ directory to view current placeable objects in a zone, but most should have campfires and torches of some kind.
You might also be able to make an untargetable invisible man with a light source for more discreet lighting.
