Problem with spawning guards leads to other questions

I have been spending a great deal of time reading through the boards trying to figure things out. So far I have gotten most of the items on my own, however there are two that are really confusing me.

How does one spawn guards? I have tried many variables using the #spawn name race lvl material(what is material?) hp gender class pri-wep sec-wep merchantID.
I have not tried to create a #dbspawn yet as it may be an error i do not know how to fix.

The other issue I am finding hard to figure out is my NPCTypes databse.
According to EQEmu Admin tool - it is empty.

I am using Linux with MySql and remote liking the EQEmu Admin tool. Is it supposed to be empty?

Am I missing something important here? Are there any questions I can answer to make this easier to be approached?

Its empty if you dont load it with a mob database (Drawde's, Telmets, etc)
