Ya that's me... Okay, so here's the problem:

Everything works fine until I try to log in at the password screen (step 6 in the readme). It passes the first message very quickly then gets stuck while saying "Establishing connection with the Login server..." After about 30 seconds or so the program goes 'illegal operation' and quits. Normally, it would go to the Server Select screen here, but nothing gives. As far as I can tell I am trying to reach the correct login server (I copied and pasted to the eqhosts.txt file) and I know it's definately not trying to log into the actual Sony server.

Ouch, illegal operation is probably client or OS. You should probably reinstall EQ, patch to live, patch to eqemu again... :(
