Using Mac Everquest..
Hello,
This may be a stupid question, but does anyone know if the mac version of everquest client will work on eqemu?
Cheers,

It definitely will not work on any version up to and including 0.4.4.
I don't know if it will work with the forthcoming 0.4.5 emu. If anyone has the mac version and would like to test this out for me, send me a PM.

Are there networking changes in the upcoming 0.4.5 emu?

There should only be a compatibility of files change. I hope it comes quickly, because Sony will be patching tomorrow (oh no!)

This would be rather cool if the mac clients could connect the eqemu server as well, although I guess we'll have to wait and see

heh it doesnt matter, we have already gotten over the proverbial
hill to a point that unless they completely change the way they send packets again, we can catch up again in a few days.

Cool! Okay, so I guess Macs SHOULD be able to connect once the new eqemu comes out. I seriously doubt they can host. If someone using a compiler in Mac OSX would be willing to attempt to compile and report errors to the dev team, one of them might attempt to get it to work (could be doubtful).
It would be nice to have a single project for all platforms of eq emulation.

I am in doubt that the mac version will run with 0.4.5. Didn't they say that the mac client could not play on current eqlive servers, and that they would have their own? I bet they are using a different communications protocol - even if that simply means different opcodes.

I didn't realize they would use different protocols!
I retract my previous opinion.

mac eq live users use they're own server farm to play eq, which may or may not mean the code is incompatible but i wouldn't hold my breath on it

Oh crap.....thats not good :( I did read somewhere that mac users were getting their own eqservers, but thought it may have to do with either the fact they are late in the game getting everquest so Sony thought it would be better for the mac users to have their own servers, or maybe eq uses directconnect which in fact would screw up mac users being up to connect to eqlive anyway.

I think I read somewhere it was just because macs were starting late in the game and deserved a fresh start. So the EQEmu servers should be compatible with the mac client, assuming thats true anyway.

I think that they have different servers for two reasons :-
If mac and pc players could play on the same servers then every single change made to the pc version would have to be made to the mac version before either could be released. This would just make the whole development and patch process much slower and harder. Much easer to just change the pc version and then later port the changes to the mac version without having to do it all under the same time pressure.
Also if a bug was introduced into one version but not the other which gave a "unfair" advantage or disadvantage to one of the clients can you imagine how many complaints about this they would get from the less mature members of the eq community.
So I'd imagine that they would want to keep the code identical where possible, but not be tied to making the updates at the same time on both platforms. If there are any differences in the protocols I'd image they would be trivial (Just my opinion of what I'd do if I was them - I don't actually know this)

Lol, my friend got into beta phase 1, not a lot of people got into 1st phase of the mac beta, and he doesn't even have a MAC.
I think this is sonys way of just saying, we want more money, from MAC too!
