First, EQEmu is free (woot). No monthly charges from SOE. You can log into EQEmu's servers and play. All you need to pay for is the actual game itself. You can also run your own server, but if you are not familiar with it, this will be a pain to configure.

Next, because you wont be paying to play on THEIR servers, you can (if you run your own server) cheat to your hearts content, and stuff like that. Obviously this is not all you can do, but to keep it short and sweet, well, ya' know.

All servers are diferent, some are legit(just like live) some are semilegit(some cheats) and some are nonlegit(your god do what ya want) now realize this isnt SOE so you may or may not get support. And i havent ever seen a server identical to live, they are all custom in some way. Also every server is like the live test server, stuff changes all the time, new stuff added some stuff taken out, some zone are populated on 1 server and not on others.

Over all EQEmu is for people to see the high end game IMO, because even on the legit servers it dose not take to long to get to 65. and it actualy need to be because we dont have hundreds of people on each server, Latly it seems that 15-20 people on at 1 time is a lot.

First off, this post is in the wrong place, should probably be in the general eqemu forum.

But anyway, EQEMu is an Open Source server-side software implatation for EverQuest. It was not created for ripping of Sony, it was created so that users of EQEMu could explore and figure out more about EverQuest. (Like how the spawns and stuff work.) It is NOT recommend that this be used to replace EQLive, at least not yet. This is because the fact that it is buggy, and is very hard to play from levels 1 - 65, and most servers can only support a few people, compared to EQLive which can support thousands.

The bottom line: If you just want to play EQ, pay $13 a month. But if you want to learn about EQ Servers, EQEMu is for you.
