old school eqemu
Hello I am trying to bring the old world type feel to my own server (pre luclin) I just want to install everything to Kunark and stop at that. That way it will be closer to what it was when i loved the game so much. My question is what version or versions of the emu would anyone sugest I should start with to see if it works. (note it will be all fresh install no patching done to it with a disk that came with original + kunark and seprete disk for velious) I know that an older emu probably will have bugs be incomplete yada speal im fine with that i just want somthing to have set up to show my grand children someday Look i explored that (kinda a wierd request but it means alot to me) any help would be nice thank you you can email me as well at smelly_gnome@yahoo.com For Power For Inovation Gnomercy Forever !

Wumpas,
From what I understand, .44 final no longer works. I don't understand why to be fully honest. I would imagine if you just installed up to Kunark, .44 would work. Try it. Do a search, the full .44 final and DB, and moving mobs grid is up here somewhere.
Cheers

How many patches occured between the official release date of the original Everquest, and the day before the Velious expansion went live? I'd guess, including non-scheduled patches, about 40. He would need the Everquest file version of the day the very last patch happened before Velious went live (which would take a miracle to obtain) as well as the Emu version from then. First two thoughts are whether or not the Emu even existed around then, and, if it did, it's highest functionality would probably be just #spawn commands. So, in conclusion, if I were you, I'd aim for around Febuary of this year, when the old UI was still optional, the Emu was very functional, and the files can still be obtained quite easily (Don't ask for Everquest files on this forum.)

I made a newUI skin of the oldUI, but it's really not the same. There's a 'feel' to it that just doesn't sit well with me. For instance, the mouse pointer has less FPS animation, and the spell-cast-recovery time is a few microseconds too long, most instinctive responses take a small bit longer. Basically, it just doesn't have the feel. The old Everquest interface was officially retired around March, I believe. And I know there are plenty of Everquest file backups out there from February and March, in which case you just edit the "NewUI=True" line in your 'eqclient.ini' to "NewUI=False", then get the version of the Emu from that time, and the backup files, and let'er rip. I haven't tried myself, but as far as I could guess, that would be your best bet. I'd try and get more info from a Dev on it, though.

thank you for the info
Thank you for the help you seem to be one of most helpfull posters ive seen on these forums. hey could you email me at smelly_gnome at yahoo.com id like to ask you more about your UI Skins if possible ive been looking through my eq backups earliest i got is august so im gona have to take a skin aproach i think. anythings a step in the right direction im collecting as much as i can mabe i can learn enough to polish up the feel of it. do you know if theres any skins for the old spellbook, buff and spell icons as well?
(adding an edit here I figured out that old spell icons and buffs are on original cd and the spellbook hold 9 spells a page now not 6 so the new ones got to stay)
thank you for your help im glad i found another fan of the old ui us old time quester guys got to stick together : )
P.S. is there a way to get old spell effects back i really like the old ones better like the original firebolt effect thx for the knowlege sharing.

Also, as far as the oldUI, if you get far enough back you can still use it. It used to have an option of newui vs oldui.
Also even after they took it away, it was still in there and you could hack the exe to use the oldui. The old ui is now completely gone from the exe.
Check out some old posts at http://macroquest.sourceforge.net. They are the ones that figured out the hack for the old UI at the time.

old theme music
Also while were on the topic is it at all possible to get the old theme music to play i have an idea but dont got the software to make the midi to mp3 conversion yet. I just need to see if you guys think this would work
I plan to convert the old themes midi to mp3 and save it in place of the current mp3 and possibly add on eof the possible character select midis to the mp3 as well so by the time my character screen loads its into the character select music Kinda a slopy fix but best i can think to do. Would the eq patcher find the changed music and switch the file? or sould it simply recognise the file name and continue loading as normal?

Side note on the old eqemu ui link you made a bit ago . . . I downloaded that beta version and tested it a bit . . . it's still pretty buggy, but looking good.
