Default Hello all Im new here and have a couple general questions

I have never connected to EQEmu yet. My sons that used to play but dont want to spend their allouance on it anymore are asking me if there is a way to play for free. So I did some searching and this is what I found. First off thank all the Developers for putting in the time to figure this out. Now for my main questions... If we connect to the general server or the one that says it is ran by one of the Dev guys how flexible is the server? I dont know anything about this stuff, so is lvling easier and such... My poor kids made lvl 10 in 3 months time so Im hoping for a easy lvling and easier game play. Please let me know what you think...Ultimatly I would love to host my own server for friends/family were I could have little easter egg type hunts and say put a lammy sword on like a orc in east commons and have the kids and friends go beserk looking for him to kill and get the new sword... Or maybe that stuff already happens on the EqEmu servers...not sure...should I just get one running and try? Also is there a website were you can manually patch your everquest back to the older versions so you can play?

Thanx

Leveling is much easier. On most servers, type #level 65
and you're there.

You cant patch to older versions, you have to keep a good version once you get it working, and only patch when they say it's ok to patch.

Excellant thanx for the info Trumpcard. Hey another question for you guys, how hard is it to run your own server? I mean so that I could set one up for my kids to play on. I dont want them to be able to type in #level 65 hehe cause well if they had the option the oldest boy would do it in a second... Little buggar cheats on all the games he can... LOL everquest has been the only one he has not been able to cheat on. Anyway thought it would be fun to set one up and put stuff on creatures and maybe make it a bit easier for them to lvl. Do you run your own server Trumpcard? Anyway thanx again for the info and this is all very cool cause Im really really tired of paying for the game and feeling like since I pay for it I have to play it all the time... Most people laugh and say jeeze you cant afford 13 a month, well yah I can but you need to times that by 4 in my family... so then its a bit expensive.

To bad there isnt someone out there going around setting up peoples personal servers for like a small fee...

Thanx guys.

I generally do, but right now the builds are broken for my platform, so I'm not running a fulltime one anymore.

It's not hard to set up a server, but it does require a bit of technical saavy and willingness to learn new things (managing sql, editing database files, etc) especially if you want custom content. It's not rocket science, but it is something that requires a willingness to spend time with.

There are tools available to allow you to edit creatures, items, etc, but to be honest with you, im not sure what state the editors are in at the moment.

The problem from leveling from lvl 1 is that exp. calculations don't seem to be working correctly at the moment, once those are fixed, you should be able to level normally again.
