put your nonstatic ip in, and change it when it changes, or use a dynamic ip system, eg. afraid.org

Default tried that

I tried to do that and still the damn 1017 error occurs. I did it both ways. Non static IP and the dynamic IP system.

Any other thoughts?

It doesn't really matter if your ip is static or not, but your connection is blocked somehow. This is probably the most common problem - if you have a NAT running or a router, something that would block an incoming connection to your server, you need to disable it or fix it.

External DSL modems are often the cause of most of your problems, and depending on the hardware/provider, you might be out of luck. Eg. If you have Qwest/MSN DSL, forget it. Last time I heard they were still trying to get warcraft 3 working properly with their modems. Check your documentation, and if you feel brave or know what you're doing, have it forward the needed ports for your server.
