It is very easy to set up EQEmu to play offline. I jsut finished setting up a server on my PC for the first time because I want to be able to test some quests I am making but I could easily use it to play on also. It took me less than an hour to set up. You can't do aynthing without mysql or another database program, but there is a link to download it in the guides and it spells out exactly what to do so you don't need to know sql at all. Just look at the tutorials forum and read the Setting up EQEmu 5.x thread and the minilogin thread.
